The first day I went to my US school (as an exchange student) everybody were asking me where Ukraine was. I had to show it to them on the map.

Sad. And understandable, a lot weren't aware of where Canada was. Hopefully the education system has changed since your stay.

I am not sure how old you are but depending on what year it is fair if they had a rough idea but not exactly as we went from 'USSR' being taught to suddenly a bunch of new places. My school couldn't keep up with map changes for a couple years between the USSR and Germany. I have always been too good Geography for my own good so I would have known but it doesn't surprise me that other's didn't.

It was 1996 and they were Freshmen.
