Guitarists - Inside Please!

Hey guys - I bought one of these little beauties tonight and wondered if any of you were using one? I saw one demonstrated at a local music store and I was blown away. It's by Line6 and it's called the PodXT Amp Modeler. It has a ton of amp/cabinet sounds & effects and plugs right into the computer via USB cable for recording. :thumbsup

I had a 1st generation Pod back in like 1999 or 2000... it kicked ass

I can only imagine that its gotten better since then

Gillespie 10-29-2006 11:54 PM

I hope you have a very agile foot. lol

Seriously, I have a friend that has it. Pretty cool for recording on the PC, but it has no other use.

Post some stuff you've recorded with it!

I've never used one of those but I have a Line6 Spider 2 Combo Amp. I can get some great tones with that so I can only imagine all the tones you'll be able to get. I went and got a cord for my Mac and I can go from my guitar or amp right into the Mac and record it through Garage Band.

I haven't yet recorded anything with it but will pretty soon. I'm trying to pull together some gear to do some home-recording - just for fun. I used to play in bands many years ago and still enjoy strumming the guitar a bit so just thought it would be fun to create some music on my computers for kicks!

I was planning on getting a guitar ever since I sold my drum set. Never got around to doing it because of time issues, but I did have an acoustic bass. Managed to play every single song in Alice In Chans' unplugged album, which is the reason I bought it, but then got bored.

wtf are you talking about - do you know how many recordings have been done with that and other applications you can do with it?

obviusly not because you wouldnt have posted this ill-informed bullshit.

jonesy 10-30-2006 12:25 AM

dean

the posibilities are endless with that. great piece of gear.

back in the late 90's we were using amp farm in the studio, the predecessor to the pod.

TreasureBucks 10-30-2006 12:31 AM

I'd like to see you using your foot with that playing live.

That's what the comment really meant. Sorry for the confusion.

I've got the older model Pod 2.0 with the Floorboard Controller (the early version of the PodXT) and it's pretty awesome with what you can achieve with it. They have a matching foot controller to go with the PodXT and you should check that out as well. The floorboard controller has about a dozen foot-tap switches, two pedals, displays, etc., that are all designed to work exclusively with the Pod. The floorboard controllers are pricey as hell, almost as much as the Pod itself, but once you use one it becomes worth every damn penny. :)

I just ordered a Line6 Spider III 120 Amp (2x10-inch) that has basically the PodXT built into it, to play with. Can't wait till it's here so I can annoy the neighbors. :winkwink:

My earlier Line 6 Spider III 120 Amp specs thread.

Hey TD - thanks for the info - I'll definitely check into it.

I also picked up a POD for the bass guitar and bought myself a new Gibson Les Paul tonight as well. I have an Ibanez strat that has a beautiful sound so I thought a Les Paul would be a nice compliment to the Ibanez. :winkwink:

Howz your new strat working out???

The new 60th Anniversary Strat totally kicks ass, and looks sexy as all hell. I've got it all adjusted out and setup for me, and then it was "Damn! I need a shiny new amplifier to go with this!!!". It's always something. :1orglaugh

Violetta 10-30-2006 02:26 AM

can be good if you know what you are doing

Tim 10-30-2006 12:06 PM

I want one. The ones I have borrowed in the past have been great :thumbsup

Danny_C 10-30-2006 01:54 PM

I'll have to check it out. I have the EMU EmulatorX Studio bundle with the 1820M... which has a built-in processor for processing real-time effects. I doubt there's much I won't be able to do with that. Only problem... no foot switch or controller of any kind other than the software interface.

I've actually been meaning to search for a foot controller that would interface with the card's effects.

WebairGerard 10-30-2006 02:26 PM

Personally I liked it a lot when first heard them. The more I played it the more I started to hear it as "fake" sounding. That to me is still true with even the best modeling amps, though new VOX ones are pretty damn good! It's just doesn't have the thickness to the sound that the real deal does. But for jamming, practicing, quick recording it's still very cool. Just not authentic.

ElvisManson 10-30-2006 02:37 PM

I had the first gen line 6 head with the pedal board.

I blew the motherboard on it twice.

It sounded great for live gigs and pre-production recording.

I imagine that the technology has improved since then.

thehand 10-30-2006 02:47 PM

Line 6 is in the building next to us:-)
