Region of the US with the best food?
Dirty South? Southwest? Northeast? Midwest?
I grew up in the midwest so I'll always be partial to my comfort food. Meatloaf, roast beef, turkey and dressing, pot pies, beef stew, etc. Which region is your favorite and why? |
Honestly any region that had a dense slavery background. Guessing that would be the Dirty South.
Reasoning is I love "soul food" which is most often made from the not so desired parts and ingredients. Takes longer to cook but just feels so right and tastes so damn good. However I have built up a huge ass personal cookbook of dishes from every region I love as well as every personal recipe I use including every family one I could obtain before it was lost to time. Been working on making a family cookbook to give out one year for Christmas or something. |
Well I would have to say the Dirty South, you'll have to take a trip out here.
:winkwink: |
Living in the 'dirty south', I can vouch for their quality of food. Nothing but heart stopping goodness here.
|
new orleans has some awesome eats
|
Most people will say the south. But honestly...i hate south cooking. I like really fresh sea food and sushi for which Seattle suits be perfectly :thumbsup

The best thing about eating in the South is the sweet tea :) :)
|
I'm a 'soul food' lover, so Dirty South, I guess. I love me some buttered grits, hush puppies, fried chicken, country fried steak, collard greens... I'd be so fat if I had grown up there.

I like salmon with a lemon on it...raw oysters...sushi Seafood gumbo doesnt do it for me |
Oh... I also love Latin food... given I grew up with a Latino dad and living in Southern California, no surprise... tamaleeeeees :)

Now oysters on the other hand. Well that is about as dirty south as you can get going way back in history. Yes specially raw oysters. They were a common street food early on. The dirty south is more than just LA. |
Dirty south

|
Southern cooking is the best.

My favorite raw oysters are from Japan :upsidedow Kamoto ..yum I think they are also raising them in places in the US now. Maybe in the south...that might get me down there :winkwink: |
The Northeast has a wide variety. Most big cities have their share of great restaurants.
|
old school southern cooking is awesome..
|
Mexican food in Arizona... but theres some good eatin in southern Georgia :)
|
LA it has good food from everywhere.
|
Not a region, just a city.
New Orleans |
If I could only have one for the rest of my life I would happily make do with the food of the Philly/PA Dutch area of the country.
|
Most diverse ethnicities = NYC..

I wonder what it's like there since the disaster :eek7 |
I'm partial to italian foods, so NY and surrounding areas are quite tasty to me. We've been in the south for 5 months and have yet to have any southern cooking :1orglaugh Chicken, corn bread and potatoes was never as appealing to me as ravioli, crusty italian bread with butter and a canoli! :)
It's really hard to find authentic italian food around here :Oh crap |

and i wouldnt exactly call sushi a northwestern US quisine, it has migrated to us just like its migrated to you, but it isnt one of the foods of our (mine or your) region/history. |
Chesapeake Bay area seafood.

Id have to say the Northeast, yes southern cooking is great but the variety in the Northeast is unbeatable. Plus we have REAL BAGLES, REAL PIZZA, etc.. For the foodie there is no better place than the Northeast.
|
C'mon - it's the south. Hands down :)
|
I'm hungry now
|
northeast less chains more mom pop type places in the southeast the food is very uninspired.

Now the region of the country with the best food overall I would say the northeast for 2 reasons. 1. You have every type of ethnic food imaginable. 2. The water. Yes the water. The water in NY especially is very rich in iron which makes for a better tasting meal. Is it healthy or healthier for probably not, but we are talking about better tasting.:2 cents: |
mmmmmmmmmmmmm... deep-fried twinkies or mars bars
that's some good ol-cooking for ya! :thumbsup |
This is a tough question ...
Buffalo has some of the best pizza and wings, but I live in Tucson now with some of the best Mexican ... |
I'm partial to the North East's seafood and italian dishes...
|

atm .. i´d say Irak or Afganistan food ...
but Korean food rocks ! So ... go ahead guys .... the world needs you |
the real answer is generally what you grew up with. Home cooking is the best for me and that doesn't mean heating up frozen meals.
|
California...for the local cuisine (mezzcans & hippie food) and anything international you want will likely have a great spot to find it here.
|
Texas BBQ
|
Gimme real louisiana cajun cook fests any time, and for food safety and quality I'd have to hand the laurels to much of SoCal and the west coast in General.
