the internet NEVER sleeps, its not like a retail business that people expect to be open from 9-5.

people on the net shop at odd hours of the day, including weekends.

there should therefore be people working late at night and on weekends, with the same skill and knowlege of the people working the regular hours!

This also applies when it comes to hosting. If I need a new server, I dont need it on tuesday, I need it ASAP!

you know what I mean?

On the flip side when one of my appliances or one of our vehicles break it is never between 9-5pm monday through friday and well, guess what they are also closed.

I agree with you that it's not always convenient to have to wait 9-5 hours to place an order (i'm a late night guy myself). However not all businesses can afford to hire 24/7 support because quite honestly the business may or may not be there in the off hours to make it worth it.

That might be close sighted but in our own business we have tried working later hours and having staff on for those customers but it hasn't been cost effective.

I always check emails on the weekend and reply to any TrafficCashGold/LoveDollars affiliates that email me. I am often on ICQ as well. If you need TCG or LD support over the weekend send email to [email protected] or [email protected]. :)

I was answering sales tickets at midnight last night. And of course support is 24/7.

However, most people still do take weekends off. Even affiliates. Paying a staff to work weekends would be a total waste of money for most companies. As an affiliate, I can wait til Monday morning for answers on things. Its always a good idea to have things planned out, as opposed to "I need this right now".

Even with hosting. Most of the people that are buying servers from me aren't going to need the server for another 3-10 days anyway. They order ahead of time knowing what they need and want. They plan ahead.

I make myself available 7 days a week in a large range of hours.

I agree with the original post though. I could never understand the 9-5 Mon.-Fri. schedule for internet companies.
