When trying to impress potential employers, your peers and essentially your future 'customers' (affiliates) with your 'people skills', it's never a good idea to lower someone else in order to bring your value up.

well the fact that she had 2 and a half years at Clickmemedia and has a shitload of contacts puts her way above you. Not to mention she's a very nice lady. More importantly. Do you think i would send traffic through you if you sign up to a company? Not after this thread. Next time try getting a job on your own merrits and don't bring others into it.

Maybe with others but when I got hired by Topbucks - nobody new me - other than a few posts on GFY and other boards, I was unknown and hadn't gone to a 'popular' show.

They don't really 'care' about how popular or how many shows you've been to. With every new employee, they look for different aspects, how they will integrate with the team, what experience they do have, (adult or not) how they interract with others. Sometimes, you're not a match today, but for the next position, you are.

The only thing I can guarantee is that they won't go hiring 'controversial' people.

As far as the shows are concerned.. it is not that " going to a show " will make you cool and so on..
It is what you do at the show, who you talk to, how you present yourself, how much business you get rolling in and so on.

Just so you know.. I have been PAYING MY OWN WAY to the shows for the past couple of years... NO FREEBIES HERE...

I knew if I met these people in person, talked with them and made them great deals they could not refuse that I could get their business.
I personally paid out over 10k last year going to shows out of my own pocket.

but you know what.. IT WAS WORTH IT... look at this awesome job with this amazing company that I just got!

I just made an ironic comment that going to shows and being known face to face apparently helps in getting all those sales rep/marketing jobs.... even though there are thousands of webmasters who never attends shows and for dealing with them, you don't have any real advantage over f.e. Paraskass ( well, Im referring now rather to typical sales rep. jobs, and you seem to have other, more important tasks with TopBucks so maybe this is the wrong example, sorry :) )

but there are many people on this board who are knowleadgable within this industry, but they don't get jobs offered because they aren't known face to face

and whether Paraskass is smart and indeed qualified for a job similar to yours, I can't comment, again I don't know him

I just want to clarify a couple of things.

This thread, in no way, was an attack on HappySeekers. We have talked via ICQ and there is no problem. I didn't intend to hurt her feelings or put her down. She was my rep over the past few years and did a damn good job. Yesterday, I was drunk, and looking back, I probably chose a poor title for my thread. I just wanted this thread to get views, nothing more, just like most other people on GFY.

I didn't apply for the topbucks position, and I don't use topbucks as a sponsor. Not pun intented towards them either.
