The Departed: Best movie I've scene in years

Dateline Boston. Damon is a young hood in the Irish mafia who infiltrates the Police Department as a cadet. DiCaprio is a cop who goes undercover as a hood in the Irish mafia. Then, when both have their identities revealed, things get really tricky. Jack Nicholson, Martin Sheen and Mark Wahlberg

Awesome movie, DiCaprio was amazing, Nicholson was incredible, the story was original with great writing. Produced by Martin Scorsese.

There have been alot of shit movies, finally one I can rave about and leave saying that was a great movie.

Go see it!

Alright, just got back from it. Great fun, incredibly entertaining; the time flew by, but a great film? I don't think so.
It isn't the same room with Goodfellas or Raging Bull or Last Temptation of Christ or Casino in my opinion. Those movies, and the characters in them, i couldn't get out of my head for weeks. Don't think that will happen with this one. Still, hell of a way to spend 2.5 hours.

The Shame 10-28-2006 07:40 PM

it was great!

Best post in the thread! :thumbsup :thumbsup

Classic? Aww, hell naw!

There was some incredibile acting by all involved NO DOUBT but the story wasn't "all that". There were 10 or 12 memorable scenes but I left feeling let down.

Great, lots of people got shot ... woo hoo ... but, IMO the movie REALLY wasn't THAT good.

... and it was way too long too.

:2 cents:

EDIT: Godfather II - THAT was a MOVIE!

ImLost 10-28-2006 07:45 PM

nice , i gotta check it out

I said this in one of the other 3 threads about this flick: The Departed was similar to a beefed-up episode of Law and Order mixed with Training Day and Deep Cover. I wouldn't want to see it again. I give it 3/5 stars.

TSGlider 10-28-2006 07:59 PM

Yeah. Hard to say anything negative about godfather 2.

it definately isn't destined to become an epic movie to be remembered through the ages. it was a good movie. nothing more. the acting was amazing. the story was so-so, there were a lot of parts that just weren't believable with no one noticing Matt Damons characters behavior/actions for example, and the ending left you not really sure what to think or feel.

I just can't believe people are jocking it so hard.

You want to see a good movie about rats and betrayal?

State of Grace blows The Departed away!

Great cast, daiolog, story, characters!

Sean Penn .... Terry Noonan

Ed Harris .... Frankie Flannery

Gary Oldman .... Jackie Flannery

Robin Wright Penn .... Kathleen Flannery (as Robin Wright)

John Turturro .... Nick

John C. Reilly .... Stevie McGuire

Plot Summary for
State of Grace (1990)

"Terry Noonan returns home to New York's Hells Kitchen after a ten year absence. He soon hooks up with childhood pal Jackie who is involved in the Irish mob run by his brother Frankie. Terry also rekindles an old flame with Jackie's sister Kathleen. Soon, however, Terry is torn between his loyalty to his friends and his loyalties to others.

While not in the same class as GoodFellas, this saga about Irish-American hoods in Hell's Kitchen during the 1970s is out of the same stable; and though sometimes monstrously violent, it's a hugely impressive piece of work. The plot is familiar: youthful loyalty compromised, betrayal, kinship, ethnic rivalry, protection of territory, return to roots, revenge. More important is the visual impact of the film, which begins in a blur of motion and ends with a bloody St Patrick's Day shoot-out. But most impactful are the performances: the much underrated Penn as a prodigal returnee, Wright as the ghetto woman who moved up and away, Harris as the bossman, and - most astonishingly - Oldman showing the ferocity of a Joe Pesci, the aimlessness of a Mean Streets De Niro, and the sex-appeal of a pre-fight Mickey Rourke."

I was trying to find the shootout scene at the end which is one of the best in movie history. Instead, here's a couple memorable scenes!
