Fight The Zango Threat - Freeware tool that removes it with one click

Zango Removal Tool

This tool will remove Zango from your visitors computer, and I encourage anyone trying to fight the effects of Zango to distribute this on your site.

This tool is 100% free, and you are free to redistribute it on your website as you see fit. When combined with GreenGuy and Jims .htaccess page, you can help do your part to protect us and the surfers.

http://www.webfootcentral.com/zango/zangodrop.zip
http://www.messedup.net/zango/zangodrop.zip

It's freeware, and open source, written in Delphi, and should work with any win98 and up systems with no outside requirements. It's a fast one click operation, that cleans out the registry and deletes zango files.

Feel free to give me any feedback you may have.

Also, if it says "Failed to remove..." does that mean Zango is NOT on the computer?

Code:

RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} ZangoToolbar [NC]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^$

Of course change "yourdomain" to your domain :) This htaccess file will allow a surfer that does not remove zenga to return to your site.

No, that means the Zango files it was looking for are not present. It goes through a list of files and deletes them, and if the file isn't found, it displays that error.

heywood 10-28-2006 02:42 PM

As much as this might piss you guys off, I'm not opening the source for this tool as planned.

My reasoning is, I think it would be too easy for someone to recompile it, adding malware in, and distributing it to other webmasters to put on their site. I dont want to replace malware with malware here.

I have given the source to some interested parties, so they can assure there is no malicous activity from my app, so they can recompile it and make it available. I will be releasing any source to trusted parties looking to do the same, but for the general public, I wont be doing this.

RevSand 10-28-2006 02:52 PM

Good man heywood! As always you rock my friend!

I would like to see source before I make this exe available for download on my sites. If it cant see what the program is really doing I would be hesitant to offer that file. If you could include me in your interested parties group It would be appreciated.

I offered this up as a solution to removing Zango. If you dont want to put it on your site or promote it, don't. I'm not begging anyone to do it, or making any money off it. It's that simple.

Why should I trust anyone either? All it takes is for one guy to slip in some of his own malware and distribute it as a mirror of it, and we'll be fighting fire with gasoline.

I have given the source to Jim for his coder to look at/compile. Once they do that, and host it, you can download it from there and distribute it. If you don't trust GG & Jim then build your own tool. It took me about an hour.

I may not be one of the "big boys" but I've been in this industry for years, and anyone that's worked with me knows I am not only honest, but also not stupid enough to offer up this tool with malware installed on it. Even a million clicks isn't worth trashing my reputation in this industry.

I'm not opening it up publicly. Let's find a trusted coder here on the board with a lot to lose and have him examine the code, compile it, and match it against what I've released, or put it up for others to download directly from him. I can give out the full source, and a link to a freeware compiler, and it's good as done. I have no problem with doing this. I'm just not going to do it for every joe blow off the street.

I understand the skeptism 100%, I really do. I'm a relatively unknown who is doing something like this for the first time, and there is a big risk. But, I really enjoyed doing it, an hour of my time to make a dent in the Zango problem? Good stuff. So, I plan on doing this with a few other programs, and release those tools free as well. In time, people will just know its legit and send people to it.

Finike 10-29-2006 03:08 AM

Thanks for the program!

Machete_ 10-29-2006 03:19 AM

people can just use one of the already trusted and updated versions of malware protection/removal programs out there

Zango can just change a little if their setup, and your program wont detect it

use http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/
its free, and works on other programs as well
