China is a threat only because of the size of their population. They could pull lots of kamikaze missions like Japan. I'm sure their government would not have too much of a problem forcing soldiers to run suicide missions.

In terms of technology, I believe US is far superior.

I bet if the United States was attacked by some army in the future that for some odd reason was more powerful, that Canada would join in and fight against us.

Here's the way it is.....

The U.S. has the most money in it's military, it's massive war machine and defensive capabilities are unmatched, period. Anyone that thinks otherwise is just fooling themselves. The response time of the U.S. military to anywhere in the world is unmatched.

China has without a doubt the largest single army in the world, but bigger isn't always better. They are a nuclear power though, which adds a lot to their threat potential.

Russia & friends -- very much a force to be reconed with, but since the inevitable breakup their otherwise massive forces are a bit fragmented, which only serves to create mulitple threats instead of one big threat. However, we are presently all at peace, right?

Great Britain has a sizeable force as well, plus the combined forces of all the commonwealth countries, some of which have nukes.

France: nukes, and a small air force. Their army would be wiped out quickly in any large scale conflict.

Canada: Aside from my pride in being Canadian, I will say this much --- our navy isn't worth much military-wise.
Our pilots and soldiers however are some of the best trained and skilled in the world. Debate with me all you want, but anyone that is really in the know about such things will tell you the same thing. The average Canadian soldier ranks right up there with the British Guerkas (sp?), who are widely known to be the fiercest and most rigorously trained in the world.

So, to answer the question "Does America have the best military?" the answer is....

for sheer technological might coupled with #of personel, yes, US all the way.

For amount of soldiers, China wins hands down with over 200 million soldiers last I heard.

For the country that provides the highest quality trained personel there are a few that rank high, and a few certain special units from countries like Australia, Canada, US, and India come to mind. But the best of the best know full well who they are and where they come from.

I'm just happy that with all the might of the US, they use their power to do what's right to the best interest of a free society, of which Canada values highly as well. I always try to support the Americans, especially in stupid arguments where others are bashing them for their history or their foreign policies etc. Some people's views are so utterly slanted and hate-filled that it sickens me, to the point where I want to drive to N. Dakota and launch some fuggin missiles mysel...... ahem. No, just ranting out loud now, heh heh.

I dont think having the "Best military in the world" is something to be proud of. I mean.. People in the army tend to get killed more then civies.

I bet 100 thousand americans would still be alive if it wasn't for Vietnam and all the smaller conflicts that the US has been involved in in the last 50 years.

The U.S. annual military budget is larger then the GDP of Australia. There military is one bad ass mofo and they'd clean up against the Chinese.

The US definately has the best equipped military in the world, and the flexiblity to employ almost any tactic to ensure victory...however the question still remains as to what they would actually win in a conflict of that size....not a hell of a lot I wouldnt think.

Yup, that's all it really takes. A few nukes and 3/4 the people on the planet would be gone. We are a peace right now but it's kinda scary knowing countries are spending billions to make their armys more powerful. The last resort is sending nukes cause a majority of the people that will die are innocent.

If China and US go at it, a shitload of people will be dead so I don't even want to know. USA has the best technology but the people using the equipment aren't too smart. Don't they kill their own soldiers allot? They bombed the Canadians by mistake =/

btw, the American conventional military is better than the Chinese military.

The Chinese have a LOT of people, but that's it. Mobility, air power, sea power, etc, hands down goes to the US. Someone trying to invade China would be in for a rough time. Anywhere else in the world, China can't even get a sizeable force there.

At least that's what I've heard. I could be wrong.
