Dealing with friends' reactions to your lifestyle. . .

Let's see here, as an adult webmaster, if you're somewhat disiplined you wake up at about 9amish.

You roll out of bed, do what you do, check stats in your underoos or what have you. Spend the day on your ass, not answering to anyone and going anywhere or doing anythign you damn near feel like.

7pm rolls around and your friend, who knows what you do but works 10 hours a day at some blue collar job for x an hour gives you a lot of shit about how easy you have it.

You find that over time, this becomes a trend and you are a bit alienated because of this.

What do you guys do about friends who have a hard time dealing with you working for yourself - not necessarily porn?

I have a friend I haven't seen in years, since before I was doing all this shit, and it seems like over time he has started to lose interest in hanging out etc. - We have a great time when we rip it up and all, but I can't help but feel like there's this wedge between us because of what I do, and it just keeps getting worse...

Have you explained to him what exactly you do? My friends don't say anything, though they don't understand why I just can't stop working and hang out whenever, haha.

DWB 10-27-2006 01:57 PM

Yep, sure have tried. I tried to show him how it is work like anything else, but all he sees is what he wants to see, I think

Heh, my true friends are happy for me besides they know that even thou I work in my panties, I work as hard as any of them. The ones that didn't get it or were jealous I don't even count them as ever being true friends anyway. Fuck 'em!:321GFY

my best friend always gets pissed and says "why don't you get a real fucking job like the rest of us" really gets even more mad, when i say "because i barely do any work, and make triple what you do"... i think its the fact that they bust their asses for minimum wage, while we make way more, for less work

This may apply to mere webmasters - but not those who produce their own original content.

If you're a producer/webmaster - you can count on changing hats at least a half-dozen times throughout the day.

As for alienation from the rest of society - naw. The wife and I know too many friends and colleagues in the industry that we interact with constantly throughout the day and evening.

if anything i just don't talk about it much. if they have such a big problem maybe they need to look at themselves and the reason why its a problem and maybe try getting to a point were they don't feel shitty about the job they have.
