just had raid5 installed on my servers..

so how do you check if raid5 is actualy working properly on your servers ?

darksoul 10-27-2006 09:53 AM

I just bought a new car.
How do you start this dam thing ?

darksoul 10-27-2006 09:53 AM

:)
is it a software raid or hardware raid ?
for hardware raid there should be a tool from the manufacturer that
tells you the state of your raid.
If its software, I doubt, what was used to create it.

It is very hard to install/setup RAID5 on a working server.

In my experience its really only possible during the setup part.

Sounds like something fishy is going on - the easiest way to check is do:

dmesg | grep -i raid

It should show something like:

scsi0 : LSI Logic MegaRAID driver
scsi[0]: scanning scsi channel 0 [Phy 0] for non-raid devices
Vendor: MegaRAID Model: LD 0 RAID1 69G Rev: 516A

This is a RAID1 (mirror) system
