anyone have been with a girl who listens to totally different music ?

actually the older you get the less significant such things become...

but can still be interesting if she loves only techno and you listen to punk rock or heavy metal

the alchemist 10-25-2006 08:53 AM

I'd teach her good music :)

GrouchyAdmin 10-25-2006 08:54 AM

I'm just thankful to have never dealt with any that are really into "boy bands." I'd end up stabing her out of self preservation instincts.

i like a lot of stuff.. but my favorite songs/types/bands are ones that my fiance generally isn't into. so i just blast it when he's not around. and then in the car we listen to more "tame" stuff. :)

my motto is: the louder and harder, the better! :)

i hated new kids on the black and that typa thing back in the day.. although i must admit that nsync had some pretty catchy stuff but i didn't listen to it much other than when working out. anyways, i used to date this loser guy who was into new kids, ugh, what a turn off, what a wimp.

She likes Yanni, Matchbox 20 and the most pretentious singer in the world, James Blunt, but apart from that we get along pretty well

rodney25 10-25-2006 11:41 AM

That doesn't matter to me at all. Preference to music varies from person to person anyway.

Everybody is a little different, but if the separation is too large, it probably wouldn't work for me. I spend a lot of time listening to and writing/recording music, so we almost have to agree to some degree on music. But I have started relationships with complete differences in tastes... their tastes have changed every time. The music I listen to, most people don't even know exists. The more they listen to it, the more they appreciate it.

Michaelious 10-25-2006 01:13 PM

usually you like similar things like that no?

BuggyG 10-25-2006 01:54 PM

used to play with this girl
who liked r&b..hip-hop
not my fav.. but i'd listen

shermo 10-25-2006 02:04 PM

My wife listens to softer stuff than I do, but we have some middlegrounds like the Deftones, SOAD, The White Stripes, Rancid, etc... I'll never blast DK, Black Flag, Sepultura, etc. with her around though.

not really. i don't think i could stand it for very long if she liked something i really didn't like. luckily i found one that likes everything from zeppelin and floyd to slayer and dillenger.

Wiggles 10-25-2006 03:16 PM

Manowar 10-25-2006 03:24 PM

it grates on you hard if you dont like their music

Scott McD 10-25-2006 03:28 PM

I met my current girlfriend at a trance event, so i don't have any worries about the music she likes... :pimp

DjSap 10-25-2006 03:31 PM

i dont really see how that would be a problem...although i and most other people seem to kind of drift to their SO's music taste...

polish_aristocrat 10-29-2006 01:58 PM

thanks for the opinions...

dennisthemenace 10-29-2006 02:02 PM

Not a big deal. No couple has everything in common. Keep your music to yourself and have her do the same if either of you are offended by the other.

Ack. What you said about age must be true.

lot 10-29-2006 03:40 PM

We only had some arguements when were in car, cos i wanted to listen to my records...

isabelllo 10-29-2006 07:38 PM

I've been with guys who have absolute shit taste in music... at least to me. For some reason I just can't stand Grateful Dead, Phish, etc... I dated a guy for six months that pretty much worshipped them. Bleh.

E$_manager 10-29-2006 09:07 PM

Does it matters? The only thing you will need is a room for each other to listen to the music you like.
