Im going to university next year!!! Help me write a personal statement please!!

None of you know much about me, but I want hints on your top phrases and top draw writing techniques.

Im want to do business Studies and I got a B in it. This is my gap year in which im doing jack-all, but I dont want it to come out like that. Something like "web enterprise", "affiliation with international companies"

So dont reply saying

"you can write this Scotty: my name is scottybuzz, i am a sigwhore i have over 5000 posts on a forum, you should take me on because I get paid for my sigwhoring and I am a professional sigwhore"

I want techniques that you professionals would use, sayings like

"if I had to find a poor quality in myself, it would probably be that I am too kind to people"

help me out people!!! I got to sell myself here!!!

I hope you get your brains bashed in.

Hahaha you're all a bit hard on the dude, going to uni will change his life..He'll have less time to post-whore. ;)

Affiliation with businesses/work experience over your gap year, volunteer work or a mention of your interests outside of work/college work are great for personal statements. Interests can be anything from enjoying music and travelling to computer programming, public speaking the boring stuff that you can squeeze in there...

It's probably also worth mentioning that you read fairly frequently, not just texts and tutorials on biz strategies but that you enjoy reading (they love that!). For a business course it's probably a good idea to mention that you read newspapers and keep up to date with current affairs... you do right?.

Let them know what skills you have... Actually just let them know that you're 'organised' and time-manage well, 'hardworking' , punctual and give attention to detail/take responsibility well, you have good communication skills and that you enjoy working with people. Don't use lines like 'I'm good at' but don't make it overly superflous and pompus either.

Keywords and phrases you can be using, 'analysis skills', 'independent learning','strong IT skills','teamwork','research' etc etc..

Seeing as you had a gap year you can probably give them blurb about how much more independent you are now that you've had to work a year...You should also mention what aspects of your courses you enjoyed at A/S, A2 level which tie in with the course you'll be taking.

"I have had the benefit of undertaking case studies in xxx, xxx and xxx at A2 level, which not only gave me a greater insight to the business world but allowed me to develop a firm understanding of xxx and xxx, I hope to learn more on this...blah blah blah" you get the idea..

Then end it with something along the lines of, you look forward the challenges, knowledge and lifestyle that university has to offer you. Maybe use something like you want to 'expand your horizons' or gain from the 'expertize' at uni. Let them know why you want higher education and how it will benefit your life.

Depending on your grades, they might interview you before you get in there - so don't blag them too much if you've got iffy grades...

I suggest you start doing something in your gap year... get yourself back into a routine otherwise you're gonna hate uni and having to work/stick to deadlines/not having someone make you to the work...They won't chase you, if you don't do the work - you blow it!

It's all about independence, good luck with it dude.

Don't forget to spell check before you submit....and it shouldn't need a 'sig'.:winkwink:

(wish my little bro would get off his ass and do something with his life!)

Hmmm. This idiot actually took the time to find a picture of someone in an England shirt on google, or took a picture of himself, then used MS Paint to write my name on it, then uploaded it. And the insult doesn't even work. Holy fucking Jesus this guy sucks.
