Will there ever be a band as good as Led Zeppelin?

I often wonder what it is or what it was that made Led Zeppelin hands down the greatest band of all?

Any ideas?

Also who do you think is the best band currently together and still performing?

Some say Radiohead and others say U2. Who do you think?

Crasy Bitch 10-23-2006 02:48 PM

I'm a Metallica fan... But Zepplin does rock

Scott McD 10-23-2006 02:48 PM

U2 would still get my vote !!

When you see them live, it's something special... :thumbsup

sherie 10-23-2006 02:51 PM

IMHO, there have been quite a few bands better than Led Zeppelin. Were they really that good? I don't think so.

JimiJimi 10-23-2006 02:52 PM

it doesnt get any better.

yeap, like pink floyd

led zep were a scale above deep purple, but not the best

Jman 10-23-2006 03:06 PM

Zeppelin sold over 300 000 000 albums with 100 000 000 in North America.

They are truly a Rock N Roll Legend.

I would also put Pink Floyd right up there with them as Legends.

Nismo 10-23-2006 03:07 PM

There already was. They were called Pink Floyd.

Milkmans World 10-23-2006 03:10 PM

Just listen to The Song Remains The Same, a Led Zeppelin concert recorded in Madison Square Garden, and keep in mind it is live, they sound unbelievable. There are not many bands who sound much better live than in their recordings.

bogo 10-23-2006 03:21 PM

yup Zep was one of the biggest back in the days followed by the Stones Queen Aerosmith The Who Floyd Styx Rush Deep Purple Boston ELO the list goes on..

When you see Led Zeppelin LIVE it is as close to a religious experience that you can imagine! :pimp

I've seen Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, AC/DC and Aerosmith "LIVE" and "YES" they are really that good! :thumbsup

Anyone who has seen a better band than Led Zeppelin please let me know and I will be at their next show! :)

Ah yes Deep Purple, good times my friend but if Zep was a scale above then who do you rate the "BEST"?

Sveindt Beindt 10-23-2006 03:25 PM

Scorpions rocks too :thumbsup :thumbsup

abyss_al 10-23-2006 03:30 PM

i don't think todays' bands will ever come close... there are some very talented artists, but they choose to perform shit because that's what sells...

led zeppelin
pink floyd

bob dylan (he's been in the studio more than ever he says... he's gonna blow up)
beck
system of a down
nick cave
radiohead
kid rock (plays almost every instrument out there, but chooses to sing what sells)
cold play
red hot chilli peppers
.. lots more... but can't think of them now...

all great, but still not GREAT!

Violetta 10-23-2006 03:33 PM

I have just started to listen to Leaf Hound! Pretty good...

Floyd is amazing.

I think that these bands fall into the category of "Legends". I guess it all depends on what is meant by "as good as". Some have better musical talent, some better writing, some have the added push from the times in which they were living.

I think I will put on "Over the Hills and Far Away", and follw it with "Wish you were here".

squishypimp 10-23-2006 03:40 PM

zeppelin is king :)

sickkittens 10-23-2006 03:40 PM

It's all subjective IMO. What is "the best"?

I have had the pleasure of seeing Zep. It was phenomenal, however of the bands mentioned I think that the floyd concerts I attended were better "shows". Floyd put a lot of theatrics into their stage show.

In my lifetime, I think the best concerts I've ever been to include:

Zep & Floyd - as mentioned
Van Halen - The dave years
Rolling Stones seen 'em in the 70's, 80's, 90's, 00's!
AC/DC
Aerosmith
Elvis - That's right, I said elvis.
Kiss - in the 70's
Monsters of rock - circa 1981. (Van Halen, Scorpions, and a bunch more)
Eagles
Queen
U2

man.... I haven't been to a show even close to one of those in a long time.

Bands with real talent aren't commercial. That's why in today's music market you can hold auditions, pick 5 hawt guys, get 'em a choreographer, a good engineer and then you can sell millions and millions....of t shirts and merchandise.

Now, where did I put my keys with the N'Sync keychain?

Jayden 10-23-2006 04:08 PM

I can't believe nobody has mentioned 2LiveCrew j/p :1orglaugh

I think Floyd edges out Led Zep by a hair, but Kashmir > * IMHO.

MetaMan 10-23-2006 04:09 PM

well rock sucks in general so the answer is yes.

Nydahl 10-23-2006 04:13 PM

Some of you might remmeber and some you might just simply know
There was another band famouse pretty well - Jethro Tull
That time they were the same level of popularity as Zeps

aico 10-23-2006 04:14 PM

Bands today suck, usually the only songs that make it to the radio are covers anyway.

Zepplin
Aerosmith
AC/DC

and others still make radio playlists, bands from 2 weeks ago can't even say that.

Spunky 10-23-2006 04:15 PM

Back then,Zepplin was one of the best..every band has a unique style, but Zepplin had a sound of their own

Jarmusch 10-23-2006 04:25 PM

Short answer: No

Long answer: No

Depends on your generation I guess. I'm personally not much of a fan of Zep. I'm also not much of a fan of what's commercial. I have however seen many live shows and DVD's of live shows in the past including Zep. Love him or hate him, Marilyn Manson puts on one hell of a show as does Slipknot (if you are looking at commercial bands).

For classics, I'm a fan of G n' R. I thought they did as much for the newer generation as Zep did for the generation before it. Nirvana kicked it up a notch after that, but because their career was so short, it was impossible to see if their greatness could carry on.

However, I must say that my preferences of live shows are more along the edge of Deftones, Dropkick Murphys, The Horrors, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and everything in between, so we do have different tastes :)

hezochiah 10-23-2006 04:46 PM

I can only imagine how good Cream would have been if they stayed together for more than 3 years or however long they were together. They had some amazing tracks and definitely could have been right up there with Zep if they aren't already.

Some of my favorite bands right now are Foo Fighters, Metallica, Velvet Revolver, Audioslave and Godsmack to name a few. I've seen Foo Fighters and Godsmack live twice and they were both fantastic shows. Godsmack I saw when they opened for Metallica in Phoenix and then Tucson the next night. Foo Fighters I saw once by themselves and then last year with Weezer which was another great band live too.

Magick. They were able to harness, magnify and direct energy.
