the country is disintegrating into total civil war whats plan B?

Webby 10-23-2006 11:40 AM

Sure is spanno. There is no plan B right now - just talk among the clueless, but at least there is an admission that something needs to change - it's the start.

There is background chat of possibly the US sitting down at a table with "insurgents" and negotiating a less violent scenario. Suppose that idea depends on whether "insurgents" are interested in chatting - or just want occupying forces removed from the country. This may also suit the US who may find a scenario where they have an exit route - if that is the intention.

Ironically, sitting down at a conference table was almost always the ending scenario to "terrorism" - they were never beaten by normal conventional means, so may be some hope yet - but many miles to even get to that conference table and it could take, who knows, over a decade yet if there was a will.

Meanwhile Blair is doing his "we'll hold our nerve" bullshit - but just words...

Dunno.. but smell there will be no deal and this will continue for several years yet.

It has been mentioned. The Iraqi govt have no wish to divide the country and nobody else has any rights to put this into effect.

Here's some views in a news piece on the possibility of division...

The insurgents have no really good reason to even negotiate with the US.
They are fucking winning!

I never thought the insurgents needed to win; but just keep us frustrated until we decided to negotiate and they would have been glad to do it at that point.

The only thing the insurgents could pray for now is that Israel would enter the war in Iraq. This would give a lot of jihadist more reason to join the insurgency and they would then like to carry that momentum into Isreal.

The only way for the US to get out of Iraq totaly clean, without fear of terroist attacks, would be for us to announce a withdrawal, apologise and start bombing Isreal. :1orglaugh

What really stupid is I kep hearing our admin say that the Iraqis need to "step up" and fix the situation.
Has it crossed their minds that Iraqis are like "you broke the shit, you fix it!"

It's just sounds so stupid that we started the war and now we expect other people to solve the problem for us and we are critisizing them for not being able to do what we are not able to do.

US says Iraq must improve policy

Iraq must take more responsibility on security and political issues, a senior White House adviser has said.

Dan Bartlett said that Baghdad needed to "take a step forward on very difficult issues".

He said "benchmarks and milestones" would be used to track Iraq's progress, but these were not linked to deadlines or threats to withdraw troops.

The remarks follow growing calls from senior officials and politicians for US and British troops to be withdrawn.

Mr Bartlett also said that White House thinking had never been properly described by the phrase "stay the course".

"What we aren't doing is sitting there with our heads in the sand," he said.

"It is important that the Iraqi government take a step forward on very difficult issues, both on the security front and on the political front," he said.

He told Fox News the US strategy must be to press Iraq to take more responsibility but to do so in a way that did not weaken the new government.

And "we" are going to use "benchmarks and milestones" and give you a gold star if you are good boys - awesome concept :pimp

My personal feelings aside, the only course that would truly get the end result that the current government would like, is for the US to send even more troops and truly step up to fighting the war as it is now. But the people in the US don't have the resolve for that sort of thing which is exactly what the enemy (insurgents and terrorists) have said all along and are simply waiting for.

Does anyone remember what all the Iraqi Generals etc. said way back when the invasion first started? I vaguelly remember that the state of the war as it is right now, is what they said would happen but I can't remember for sure. Given the speed at which the US took over Iraqi in the first place, I'm sort of thinking that the Iraqi leadership had this in plan from the beginning since they knew they couldn't stand up to the US in a true war.

Believe that was part of the plan in paperwork produced long before the invasion :thumbsup

Course.. it's fantasyland, but looks good in theory on paper.
