Ever have a site suddenly start making sales out of nowhere?

Maybe it was the google shakeup but I have a blog - and one sponsor on that blog in particular - that went from very modest traffic levels and not really many sales to suddenly having a ton of traffic and a bunch of sales. By suddenly I mean over the last five days. On the sponsors refferal stats all of the sales are coming from weird google strings..many from local versions of google like google.de and even one from google.gt which I had to look up to find out was Guatemala (didn't know google had one there). Would you think it was legit or something weird was going on?

I've tried to icq the contact on the stats page to have them just take a look over the sales to make sure they look okay but they are never online and trillian isn't letting me offline them.

as long as you tried to contact them its probably going to be ok...i've had that happen to me but usually it makes more sense then your situation since your traffic is coming directly from google..

Google can be weird, two months ago it suddenly grabbed a sponsor link of mine (not a search engine friendly one) and listed it on top of the search results for this site, loads of signups and after a month is disappeared from google again...BAH

I just wish I could follow the strings on the refferal page and find my site listed under that term.

Happens every once in a while.. an old site or a site i haven't finished or haven't updated in ages with hardly any traffic will start making killer sales.

Sales and traffic can be very unpredictable at times. :)

The ones that piss me of are when that happens and you haven't even got a clue what one of your sites the traffic is coming from.

The sales just start coming in.....

Yeah! It rocks. Try and duplicate whatever it was you did. Try and remember anything you may have done in the past 8 weeks and you may come upon it.

yeah serps are wierd, i have stop working on a specific site and google will take an old listing and put in like page 10000 and then pooof 3 months later its #1 again out of nowhere.

Tuga 10-24-2006 05:03 AM

I have a hosted gallery that made 3 sales in 1 day with 5 visits, then 2 sales with 3 visits, then nothing. I have no idea where that golden traffic was coming from.

I'd rather it not be a mystery so I could do it again but unexpected money is always good.

ive been hearing about this for 2 months now.. could someone from the bottom of thier hearts atleast give me a clue on how to do this i tryed a few things but i dunno if i did it right??

Axzar 10-24-2006 07:40 AM

It's a great thing while it lasts for sure!

Sarah_Jayne 10-24-2006 08:36 AM

I checked it out and they are all okay. What it looks like is that some of the regional google's are showing up my referal link in the first page of searches for the sponsor's name. So, enjoy it while the sun shines.
