Music People - How does this mix sound?
I've got some new mastering software in the studio and have been playing with trying to get tracks to sound better across multiple platforms (especially PC speakers) and wanted to put this out there just to get a few opinions on the sound quality. A lot of times I'm getting stuff to sound great on a good system but then it's a bit muddy and too bassy on PC speakers. So anyway I figured the best way to get a good wide sampling of how it sounds is to post it...
If ya have a sec, please have a listen and let me know how it sounds and what you're listening on. It's just a backing track for something not completed yet: http://www.marktiarra.com/music/mark...ue_submix2.mp3 Thanks. |

Lacking in the mids. Old trick I used to do was burn the song to a cd, and listen to it in the car. Afterall thats where most people listen to music.

drum sound: try letting the drums play on a speaker in the bathroom or a room with a 'brittle big sound', record that sound and mix it with the 'canned sound -bmb |

I can do that right on the studio monitors though using ITunes up there. What I'm finding is that great speakers fool me into thinking a mix is good then it sounds horrible on PC speakers or on cheap systems. SInce I post a lot of music online I want it to sound good across pc platforms mostly. Using the spectrograph as suggested above ought to solve the problem of guessing about frequency coloring from speakers though. Hadn't thought of that but it's a great solution. |
A common problem in home recording is a muddy bottom end. Just remember to never add frequencies when EQing, always remove... especially from the bottom end. And just mix with a pair of Yamaha NS-10's and a decent amp. If it sounds good on those it will sound good on everything. Good Luck.
