Anyone Know How to Stop Vbulletin Spam?

I keep banning and censoring, etc. etc.

Enable image verification for registrations. That'll keep out most auto-signups.

Well, I would like to allow posting by guests, but I might have to switch to mandatory registration to post to stop this.

thanks

Turn your forum off.

You can enable image verification for guest posts, I believe. Can't you?

If you get enough traffic to your forum, maybe you should invest in outsourced staff to monitor posts. Just a thought. :2 cents:

Do that so posting bots won't stand a chance anymore.

Hi!

I have several registration free forums, and they are getting spammed now also. I am still looking into a solution for it, image verification is good for bots but there are many manual spammers who also use proxies.

If anyone has a bright idear for this I am verry interested!

Best Regards,

They have several really good anti-spam products that you can run on your forums, they work really well to.

you cant really do much against manual spammers...but required resigstration with email and image verification will get the bots out...then what you can do is restrict thread making authority for x number of days or before they reach a post count...but a manual spammer will always be able to override the system somehow..

Btw! One advice to keep sertain spammers from comming back is not showing them that they are banned!

You could use the folowing PHP function to let them think the server is down:

Code:

if ($banned) {
        sleep(rand(60,200));
}

and on top of submit the folowing:

Code:

if ($banned) {
        sleep(rand(60,200));
        header("HTTP/1.0 404 Not Found");
        exit;
}

If they experience this, they won't go seeking a solution verry fast to bypass the ban!

If it's a big forum, moderators are always a good idea. Motivated surfers that do the job for free...

Install that, it works a treat, you can change the amount of posts needed to anything you like also.

I have it installed on all 15 of my resource forums and it has cut spam down by roughly 90%

Lee
