fuck myspace ( a lesson on how bad is sometimes better )
for the life of me I cannot see what's so great about myspace.com the website is full of buggy poorly written insecure code hosted on what seems to be shitty servers
the whole networking aspect of the site is wayyyyyy overated and seems to me is driven by a small group of introverts---who promote introversity ( new word i just made up ) so what was it that made millions, myself included sign up for this shitty website? what did I miss could someone please fill me in discuss |
to tell the gods honest truth nothing i only use it to keep in touch with my friends that moved to different states an thats about it!
|
I never got it either. I never used it, although I have a space reserved there in case I ever want to use it.
Social networking is not overrated, but MySpace is. |
just one of those things , build it , get it in the media enough that it becomes a household word
|
it was just a fad, that made some guys very rich
|
Yeah, it's nothing special and its poorly coded you can tell by the way it functions. What made it millions was the way in which it was promoted and targeted towards morons. It became the thing to do and bam.. if you can get the morons you get the cash.
|
Oh thank God I'm not the only one who doesn't get it. I finally decided a few days ago to actually join and put up a myspace page. Up till now I've never really paid that much attention to it but now that I have had a chance to take a look at it up close and personal I have to say that is BY FAR one of the shittiest sites I have ever seen. I have absolutely no clue how it ever became popular. The pages look like a retarded attempt at creating a blog that failed severely.
Another thing that I find interesting is that (according to the indicators on their pages) nearly every celebrity on myspace logs in and hangs out on a daily basis......:eek7 uh huh, right, because they have absolutely nothing better to do than get on myspace and not talk to anyone. I think most of that site is nothing more than a cleverly planned and well executed smoke-and-mirrors fantasy designed to keep the mass of insecure star-struck morons coming back for more. But that's just my :2 cents: |
im on myspace, its a way to talk to people back home, what I do know is that its down a lot, well certain areas of the site anyway and that they have the number 6 on alexa ratings.

Pussyserver: BEST SIG EVER
I've always used myspace to set up shows in other towns for my band to tour, works really well. I think in that sense it's a good thing. But all these fucking retards who "pimp" out their pages with ridiculous shit and embedded music, etc...it's just fucked. |
great way to get pussy. Period.
|
I checked it out a year or so ago but being such a private person, the idea of putting my personal details online really creeped me the the fuck out. I have enough real friends.
And yes, as a programmer the functionality of the site creeped me the fuck out too. |
I have met up with High School friends from years ago on MySpace.. I have also been able to contact some family back east that I rarely saw growing up.

I've never bothered with it. Load of shite !!

Its just like the talking picture shows. It will never last.
|
myspace is simple, its targeted to those who a) need friends and have a desire for others to reinforce their insecurities and craving for attention. b) immature people are attracted to other immature people.
its all fairly simple. myspace is for kids, and any adult using it, is just too immature to *SEE* that. |
Never got it. Had someone say she was going to make me a MySpace page, and I told her I would only use it if she nailed my personality. I don't expect it to happen anytime soon..
|
Keep thinking that. I'm sure many people here would appreciate it if many webmasters stayed the fuck away from Myspace (or it's equally lucrative clones).
|
I signed up to myspace, but I never actually added any info. I just never "got it"
|
The bottom line is that there isn't another social networking site that has offered the features that the market wants. And now that everyone is on MySpace, it's kind of hard to leave it because whats the point of going to another site when all of your friends and contacts are already on MySpace? It is a badly programmed site, and the servers do indeed suck ass. However, that isn't terribly important because the site does what it's meant to do, and most "regular" people aren't as nerdy about programming quality as webmasters are. MySpace already has the market share, and if they continue to upgrade the product and serve their market, they won't be going anywhere.

Why do I get the feeling that the average age of the posters in this thread is north of 35?

Myspace suck. It's good only for spaming and nothing else.
|
its the same thing that made people back in 1997 want to make a crappy little homepage in their ISP's ~user/public_html/ for the new mainstream internet generation
|
introversity ftw
|
Interesting.
My posts got pulled... I guess someone didn't want their shit outed. |
Ok....here is my breakdown of Myspace:
Myspace is the world's biggest bar. It is like being able to be at a bar and hit on any girl you want to without having to approach each one personally and do all the typical bullshit that you have to do when approaching a girl who is out with her friends at a bar. That being said, just like at a bar, if you look like a scumbag or are unattractive, or when you open your mouth bullshit flows out, the girls aren't going to talk to you. Also, Myspace lets you browse within a 5 mile radius of your zipcode so you can find tons of girls that are almost your neighbors. Also, your profile says a lot about you. If you have a fun profile and people think you would be interesting to meet, they will message you or be more apt to reply when you message them. On top of all the new contacts I meet on Myspace, I have found several of my old friends that had it not been for Myspace, I probably would have never talked to again. |
it makes staying in touch with old friends really easy, not only that but you can see what theyre up to without even asking - just checkout their pics/blog/bulletins/comments
|
I think we're too old and jaded about the internet to "get it." It appeals to people who are impressed by flashy websites but have no idea (previously) how to build their own. Now suddenly they can (sorta.)
Think if phone books allowed people to post little profiles and photos by their numbers. They would make a MINT. |

on top of being a neverending supply of ladies it works really well for promoting your band / store / record label / clothing company / tattoo shop / art gallery / and the list goes on...people get promotion and coverage that they could never get years ago in such a short time frame...bands have fans before their demo is even out...its super easy to books tours and it 100% free promotion for whatever it is you're trying to sell... plus you can keep in contact with people you may have lost touch with over the years... it may not look pretty and be slow at times...i just don't understand how people can't see the benefits...it might not benefit YOU as a person but it sure is a huge benefit to millions of people all over the world in more ways then one...:winkwink: :2 cents: :winkwink: |
