Creating your own content

I'd like to start shooting some of my own pics and vid's. I'm not thinking about jumping into the content business, just looking to produce some halfway decent clips and stills for use on an amateur site. I'm a complete and total novice in this area. I don't have a lick of experience with models, advertizing for models, or photography. That said, I live close to the SF Bay Area, where I figure there should be a good decent model pool, and I can get hold of a decent digicam/video record easily too. I do know a bit about model releases, and I think I can pick up basic photography and lighting fairly quickly.

Does anyone have any tips they'd mind sharing on photo equipment, advertizing for models, interviewing techniques, convincing 'em to fuck on camera, and so forth?

I usually just jump into this sort of shit blind and figure things out for myself, but I figure it'd be wrong to let the decades of cumulative experience on this board go to waste :)

1) digital camera
2) clubs and ad in newspaper
3) lots of that squid and vitamin E and zinc (see other thread)
4) lots of fucking and a nice big moneyshot on her tricky face
5) repeat

Gary 07-05-2002 12:17 PM

1 digital camera
1 crack whore
1 elephant
27 fluffers
6 diggers (to dig out the girl from 40 gallons of elephant cum)

Not worth the hassle.. unless you can come up with new different and incredible stuff and someone who does not even know what is needed or what camera to buy is only asking for trouble.

Great article! I'm halfway to page 5 now but I gotta split for a luncheon. I suspected I might be told not to bother with it, and thats fine. I understand its not as easy as it looks, and I'm still in the just thinking about it stage.

There are a bunch of alternative publications in SF that offer low cost advertizing and cater to the crowd I'd be targetting, so I may just give that a try and see what turns up. If nothing comes of it, so be it.

Anyway, if I do decide to give it a go I'll ICQ you!

Thanks.

The book on recruiting models in particular is one you should consider getting:

http://www.afterglow-photo.com/allbooks.htm

Basically, advertising is the only way to go, I have found. Unless you just want to pay pimpish guys to send you girls. Frankly, I think it's more fun to get them on my own, and since I really like total newbies to modeling, I wouldn't be happy with the pimped girls anyway. I'd much rather have a college coed like the new one below than a gal whose looks scream that she's a sex industry pro.

No worries anytime. The only thing to consider is the type of girl you will get from an "Alternative" publications and from SF as well, make sure there are no valuables left laying around!!

Unseen is right the best way forward is to advertise, but be prepared to see a lot of ugly girls. Unfortunately not too many like this turn up every day.

But they will if you are patient.

No problems got a lot of knowledge to pass on, but you have to have the experience in the "Field"

Well, maybe I'll just have to come to the Czech Republic for a few weeks and be your assistant. Or your light guy. Or your water spritzer guy :)

It's not just an act of sheer kindness to provide that link. I wrote the booklet, and so I can call myself "The man who wrote the book on recruiting models." :Graucho

Thanks for the link. Damn nice model you have there! :thumbsup

As far as va2k, I like him, but I need the sort of models the members of my site can identify as being female *before* the clothes come off. :1orglaugh
