So how many of you regret your tattoos?

Thinking recently of getting a tattoo...I had something very specific in mind and went to one of the best artists in the city. After looking at my design the guy said it would have to be done larger than I had imagined and I would have to settle for something different if I wanted it on my arm.

So I'm now having second thoughts cos I can't have exactly what I wanted...And I guess second thoughts about it all in general.

Have any of you guys regretted getting work done or even backed out of it?

galleryseek 10-19-2006 10:29 PM

don't get a tattoo. most people get them because they think it'll make them feel cool or look cool or er.. something. in the end its just doodling on your skin, but its a permanent doodle.

galleryseek 10-19-2006 10:31 PM

dumb shit like this too, jesus... this guy really wants acceptance.. "HEY GUYS LOL LOOK AT THIS" although i admit, idiots that get tattoos like this are good amusement.

I don't have any. I regret other people's tattos. :D

bl4h 10-19-2006 10:34 PM

Like any fashion statment only certain types can get away with certain things and look cool. For example uncle jessie from full house will always look cool witth his mullet. however billy ray cyrus could never get away with it again.

Unfortunatly you cant just shave off tatoos..

Big John 10-20-2006 03:03 AM

People who regret tattoos are simply usually those who have one (or more) for entirely the wrong reason. Usually to look 'cool'.

I have a LOT including a full back piece and my thighs covered. They were done 15+ years ago but I've never regretted them, but then the reason for having them was/is a personal one. Very few people see my tattoos unless I'm swimming. They stop above the elbow so are very easily covered.

So no - I don't regret them but then I thought very carefully about why I wanted them, what I wanted and the placement. The colours have lasted well as getting cancer from the sun has never beena goal of mine. That said, when they do eventualy fade enough I'll probably get them redone to keep them fresh if I decide I can go through al that pain again.

dissipate 10-20-2006 03:16 AM

I dont regret any of my tattoo's, in fact I'm planning a couple more :frenchman

Manowar 10-20-2006 03:19 AM

if you regret them, then you arent the type of person who should have one

Big John 10-20-2006 03:20 AM

Should of added I'll have just the one more for now. All of my tattoos are themed around various points in my life and interests at the time. I recently lost my Mother and my final one (for now) will be a sort of memorial to her to carry on the theme. Can't see myself regretting that one either.

I don't regret my tattoo. If anything, I perceive it the way I view paintings by Jackson Pollock.... it's not the "painting" itself that counts as much as the process / ritual / setting involved in getting the painting done. The same way with my Chinese dragon tattoo.... it's just a visual residue of the great times I had in college. I wouldn't trade it for the world :)

beemk 10-20-2006 03:26 AM

i would never get a tattoo, just not my thing.

CBytch 10-20-2006 03:36 AM

I have 2 tattoos and don't regret either. I have one on my arm that I got after I miscarried and the other on my calf after my son was born.

If there's thought behind the tattoo and a meaning to it, you shouldn't regret it.

the only thing i regret about my tats, is that i was young when I started getting them
and ended up with a few in the sleeves that I wish I could do over, they could be much better rather than looking like jailhouse tats.
Having clean skin on the arms again would be great,
then I could get some more really nice tats.

Chr0makey 10-20-2006 04:13 AM

Jensen 10-20-2006 04:26 AM

friend of my gf visited yesterday and she had huge regrets.. she's a couple of years into chinese studies and is due for a year over there.. just found out that they really look down on people with tattoos in china and she would be forced to hide them... (yeah, I started laughing heh)

JayDeeZee 10-20-2006 07:15 AM

I was 18 when I got mine.

I don't regret it, but I'm glad I can cover it by my shirt when I need to.

Sometime I look at Old people and see their tatoos, you can't even tell what they are supposed to be. They just look like blobs.

JUSTB 10-20-2006 07:17 AM

I have 2 and don't regret either. But I also got them in places where they can be covered when necessary. Unfortunately there are still some judgemental people around, though tattoos are becoming more and more mainstream.

Forest 10-20-2006 07:19 AM

I dont regret any of my three and am thinking of doing another one as it has been 8 years since my last

Jman 10-20-2006 07:31 AM

I got 19 and don't regret a single 1. Tattoo is a huge trend right now. Over 35% of amricans between the age of 19-35 has at least 1 tattoo and numbers are growing while more and more teens reach 18.

If you want to learn more about them I suggest you visit my site.

Pete-KT 10-20-2006 07:31 AM

Dragar 10-20-2006 07:41 AM

I don't regret my work, there is one that I wish I had just about a half in lower. At the time though, it was just where I wanted it.

If you guy is telling you have to "settle", start looking for someone else.

SxDx 10-20-2006 07:48 AM

i have a 5 tattoos...all large. only one i regreted was the first one i ever got and i covered it up with another one

ElvisManson 10-20-2006 08:17 AM

About 30% of my body is tattoo'd. All of them mark a certain point in my life and have a lot of meaning to me.

Anyone that is part of the "Big Tattoo Club" can back me up on this. Random people feel they have the right to walk up and start asking me questions about why I get them etc.... That lack of privacy bugs me.

:pimp

DaddyHalbucks 10-20-2006 08:26 AM

welcome back

wedouglas 10-20-2006 09:50 AM

I'm going to get mine removed. It was something I wanted to try when I was in highschool. I honestly don't notice it much, but I think I'll get it removed so I can experience that too.

2477 10-20-2006 10:15 AM

I got a tattoo of the Republican Elephant when I was in college. I haven't voted republican since.......I plan on getting in removed eventually

One of the advantages of being UK based - people are usually too reserved to do that :) Even at the pool very few stare 'openly' so as not to appear rude. It's very easy to forget you even have them here.
