[Photoshop] Partial b/w, partial colored?

How do I create pictures which are one part black/white and one part colored...

Let's say a photo in which the people are black and white, but their t-shirts still have their original color?

I've seen a tutorial of this b4, but can't remember where...

layers my friend...
one layer black and white, the second colored...
the coloured up and the bw down... delete what you want in bw from the top layer

You can do what Martinsc says or you can use layer masks which do the same thing. either way you need to use layers and have the colored layer on top.

add a hue/saturation adjustment lay above your pic... with the saturation set to -100.
then edit the layer mask that gets added along with the adjustment layer.
(painting the mask with black will reveal your color, and vice versa)

Layer masks tend to make it quicker and easier, plus is allows a little flexibility in how you will work with it... selecting and copying only the colored area to a new layer can be useful if you intend to do something with it, say like popping the colored parts forward in a flash or something similar.

I have done it with a mask for an ad for lingerie, making the girl black and white and allowing her bra and panties only to retain their original light blue and white... very nice look and makes the "main points" stand out.
