LESSON OF THE DAY - renew your domains before they expire

Learned today that if you put off renewing domains they will expire and someone will enjoy a free 50,000 hits a day for a while

www.categorizedcunt.com :Oh crap

gooddomains 10-19-2006 06:56 AM

yeah, tell me about it

CaptainHowdy 10-19-2006 06:57 AM

Damm... Which was your registar?? Didn't you get emails from them??

Tom_PM 10-19-2006 06:58 AM

My registrar starts sending me "reminder" emails about 90 days before expiration, and sends them every 15 days or so.. It's so redunant that it's almost annoying, but I like it.

Klen 10-19-2006 06:59 AM

No need to bother with that if you have registar which protect your domain one year after expiration.

KRL 10-19-2006 07:01 AM

Good thing to do is keep all your expiration dates organized in a spreadsheet. But even then you can forget sometimes if you had an old e-mail address on the admin reg you forgot to update.

Za Ha 10-19-2006 07:04 AM

All my other domains are with directnic or godaddy and the email reminders always come in and there is never a problem.

CategorizedCunt was one of my older domains and I had it at http://www.allproregister.com/

Learned my lesson the hard way :(

ffmihai 10-19-2006 07:14 AM

oh shit that sucks

Martin 10-19-2006 07:28 AM

OG LennyT 10-19-2006 08:05 AM

my reg kicks ass and gives me reminders when under 90 days

BIGTYMER 10-19-2006 08:17 AM

I always get like 5 reminder emails if the domain isn't set for auto-renewal.

spacedog 10-19-2006 08:20 AM

depending on how long ago it expired, you can still get it back by filing UDRP with Icann

Vlad 10-19-2006 08:21 AM

one thing I know for sure !

registerfly sucks !

If you own alot of domains, it can make domain management difficult.

Try to pay your most valuable domains way ahead, 10 years is ideal, if you can.

If you have thousands of domains expiring at the same time, cost can become a major factor.

BAKO 10-19-2006 02:13 PM

I just renewed all of my domains few days ago :)

marketsmart 10-19-2006 02:14 PM

you should always check...

BlackCrayon 10-19-2006 02:17 PM

that sucks. i've never lost a domain that way but did once when the registars website didn't work and i couldn't contact them.

anyways, i doubt if anyone picks it up it will have *that* much traffic. there is a 30 day period in which the website would of been unreachable before it expires to the point where you can no longer simply renew.

pornguy 10-19-2006 02:35 PM

I have the exp dates in my outlook calnedar, so reminders pop up.

Dirty Dane 10-19-2006 02:37 PM

Thats not a bad advice :)
