I used to be a staunch total Republican. This admin has completely blown it and droves of former Republicans are leaving the party en masse to be either Independents or Democrats. Even my mother who has voted Republican her entire life said she'll never vote Republican again.

The scary part is I don't think these folks even have a clue how much damage they've done to the US Constitution, the priniciples upon which this country has stood for for over two centuries, and the party itself.

I really don't think the majority of American's will get their instinct of self-preservative back until China surpasses them in terms of economic size and power. Too many American's seem to have the impression that the US is the most evil country in the world, and forget about a lot of the alternatives out there, including those the US already defeated. From Stalinist Russia, to Fascist Germany, to Human Rights Don't Matter China, take your pick. Certainly I know, despite all its faults, the US is by far isn't particularly evil, unjust or inhumane, I also think its internationalist policies (including with regards to trade with China) show it is a nation thinking globally, and thinking for global peace and intergration, as opposed to Supremacy. On the other hand when China reaches the top of the heap I think you may see a vastly different alternative that more closely represents colonialism in places like Africa, etc. So the US has the power to stop its enemies from getting into space, and intends to do so, why shouldn't they? At least what they consider an enemy usually involves nations very few people would consider models for global harmony.

Bush certainly never acted alone on this - his lawyers and pow-wow committee who gives him advice on such issues really need to be taught a few things. I say this because one man cannot run an entire government - and if so - that is scary shit for the whole world to deal with and also why there are two keys to the ignition switch on all our missiles

The new policy does not hold that anyone going into space is considered an enemy, it holds that the US reserves the right to prevent known enemies from going into space.

The problem with it is that it is very broad. "Hostile to US interests" could also refer to a nation that is a direct economic competitor of the US, or one that simply does not like current US policy (e.g. Venezuela).

The US has not declared ownership of space. It has declared that it will control access to it, so that responsible states can use it and genocidally irresponsible ones cannot. There are over 40 countries with a presence in space at present.

What the US has said is that states which are hostile (such as Iran and North Korea for example) will not be allowed to use space. It's kind of like when the police won't allow paedophiles to lurk near playgrounds. It makes perfect sense.

Regarding your 'Iran nukes' statement, you haven't been paying attention. Do a search and you'll find a multitude of threads in which GFY's brightest talents :1orglaugh wonder why, if we can have nukes, Iran cannot.
