Thoughts on the Cannon XL 1 video camera
 

how is the learning curve on this camera? I'm going from basic every day run of the mill circut city video camera to this

i've messed with all kinds of them in past work but never "owned" oen and had to set it up myself


whats the best route right now for a pro-amature shooter?

Find out how many miles are on it. We had 2 available to us for shooting. One had moderate amount of use and the other had an insane amount of useage. The colours on the heavy use cam were really subdued for lack of a better term.
As for the learning curve it's not to bad to use functionality wise. If you understand basic concepts like you apperature, shutter speed, white balance and all that you should do fine. Just play with it for a bit before you do anything important on it.
Are you buying new or used?

the only other thing I would add is that it is a very large video camera and tends to be cumbersome to get in close with and near impossible to be discreet with *(say for example shooting in public)
