Wonder How People Can Be Dumb Enough to Get ZANGO?

Because of shit like this:

http://cluster.adultadworld.com/erot...r/popular.aspx

Don't click any of the videos, simply watching on of those vids will install Zango, and this is an url I saw on a pretty high traffic site of which the owner posts here.

Kick yourself in the nuts much?

Here's a list of methods re adware proliferation (covered in an old post at the old version of http://www.justtraffic.blogspot.com ):

the installer is distributed in warez install packages -- bling.exe was distributed this way

spread via p2p networks using popular game names (the low KB install sizes give this away but they claim to be 'cracks' or keygens or sn generators)

distributed via popups in warez sites

So be careful what you click on. Some "installer packages" found a way to not trigger the standard SP2 install notifications.

Although it's harder to get spyware or adware nowadays due to the spread of FF and SP2, once someone DLs an app onto their system thinking it's something else (because the title/label or dl network he got the stuff from tells him so)... then all bets are off.

It is, like you said, a kick in the nuts.

and how would I detect if I have it in my system?

it asks you to install a codec which looks just like any other windows media player codec install prompt. just b/c lots of ppl have computers, doesnt mean we have lots of educated computer users.

How did zango get license to use all of that content?

I wonder who they bought the content from ? I doubt they shot it themselves.

Here is an intersting topic. It looks like from that site that zango is hosting and distributing porn. It also looks like they install their search assistant in everything, games, videos, etc... everything cause that is where they make their money. Now I wonder if their mainstream clients (which is where I am sure they make most of their money) know that they promote porn as well. I know most mainstream sites don't want porn traffic, don't want anything to do with porn, do not want to be listed on a website with porn on it, etc...

It would be interesting to get a list of their mainstream clients and ask them.

Here is another approach.
Look at what Warner Bros did to Zango because of their kids games having the search assistant installed.

Check this out: http://blog.spywareguide.com/2006/07...ngo_warne.html

or this one:

Hidden in the terms of agreement is the disclosure that users may receive adult-oriented ads through it.

Now you know if we have fire on one hand, and fuel in the other, all we have to do is introduce the two to each other.... We could contact every antiporn, children protection service, hardcore right wing religious group out there and introduce them to our friend Zango and the effects that they have on kids. I am sure the FTC would like to see that (acording to the washington post) kids games are being installed with their search assistant basically pushing porn to kids.

Image if little tommy types in his browser disney cam and he gets a pop up for AFF which shows nudity in unprotected areas of the site.

Do you have a ZangoCash account? Make a list of who they're stealing content from?

They have Paris Hilton vids up on that page, doubt they have licenses for those. The rest seems like generic bulk porn so they might have licenses for that, or just steal and cheat like they are used to.
