Break into Japanese music
Everyone go buy this album:
http://us.yesasia.com/en/PrdDept.asp...section=music& It is Utada Hikaru's third album. She's a 19 year old NYC-born Japanese singer who is very famous in Japan now. Excellent album -- kinda hip hop / R & B. BTW, this isn't spam. No referral code in that URL :) |
Our Price: US$26.75
Wow, what a deal. |
Overseas version (ie, Chinese bootleg) is like $16. It's an incredible album.
|
I was given the single Travelling as a gift, a few weeks ago. Its okay... I always thought First Love was the best. :Graucho
I had a bid on a Shonen Knife LP yesterday on eBay UK. They're too funny. I've liked them ever since I heard Little Tree on tv. In the end the auction went to Ģ19... I think it'd be cheaper to buy the thing brand new, if only there was a decent place to buy in the UK and I didn't have to get everything and anything on import. :( :( Ayumi Hamasaki is something else to consider, for anyone looking towards Japanese music. Also, my girlfriend is a fan of Ken somebody, but I can't remember his damn name. :Hollering One of his songs is "Mircale". |
Ken Hirai
He has a really nice voice. Travelling is a nice song -- very upbeat. Hamasaki Ayumi is -- the modern Diva of Japan. That pretty much sums it up. |
I like Ayumi Hamasaki alot, but other then her I don't know many Japanese singers.
She has a beautiful voice and I don't mind not understanding the language because her voice is so lovely. I've tried listening to a few other Japanese singers but can't fully appreciate their songs because I don't know what they are saying. Mindyou I half the time I can barely make out what some English groups are singing about LOL. I like alot of Heavy metal, industrial, & punk rock. Ayumi's music is such a sharp contrast to the stuff I normally listen to. |
Ayumi's music is really good -- her lyrics are amazing.
If you are into metal, you should listen to X-Japan. They are Japan's most popular rock group of all time -- started in the early 80's and disbanded in '97. Incredible music from them as they were the most talented musicians there. |
I know Utada. I met her through my freind Kenji Ozawa. Very cool people. Much more down to earth than American artists.
Eru, nihongo ga dikemasu ka? |
And can we please close this fucking thread now?
|
... that guy is almost as penetrant as a tele marketer ... NO ... I WILL NOT LISTEND TO THAT SHIT, AND HELL NO, I AM NOT BUYING EITHER ... AND DONīT EVEN THINK ABOUT SENDING IT TO ME FOR FREE ...

I speak Japanese -- not fluently but almost there. |
Sweet girl. Extreeemely smart. I met her mom and dad too. They are extra cosmopolitan so it rubbed off on her. She may be young but she's more advanced than most 25 year olds. I haven't seen her in over a year but last I heard she was coming to spend most of her time over here. I don't know if she is here or not though.

I'll bump it up for you. |
If you like Japanese power pop, check out The Pillows. They did a bunch of songs on the soundtrack of the greatest anime ever; FLCL (check that out too if u can find it).

She is attending Columbia University (I think she's taking a "break" now since her new album's out) Her mom --> Keiko Fuji was a famous Enka (Japanese country) singer like two decades ago. I think that's where she gets her talent from. |
He he, I know what you are sayin Eru. I'm not asian but I think she is one of the hottest lil babes in music anywhere! Last time I was with her so was her father. Everytime we were in a separate room her dad was always peeping around corners watchin me! He is a smart man. :winkwink:
|
Who was that guy you were with that got you to meet her?
|
If you want good japanese music, check out guitarwolf, teengenerate & the blue hearts.
|
Why would anyone pay for a CD when you can download it?
|
Kenji Ozawa. He is a Japanese recording artist. He is a star in his own right. When we see Japanese girls when we are hanging out over here sometimes they start shaking and gasping for air. It's pretty funny. He was in a group called Cornelius in the early 90's before he went solo.
|
I know Cornelius -- but how do you personally know this guy?
|
I live in a small town where everybody knows each other.
I'm actually not kidding. If you are in Music, fashion, or entertainment in general you tend to meet everyone else at some point here in the city. |

Actually, Brooklyn (at least where I live) is just a short walk away from Manhattan. New York is really a huge small town. All the people who are really doing things here at least knows a person that knows any other person who is doing well in the city. So I could go to a party or function that a freind is throwing at their home and run into anyone from Marilyn Manson (which has happened) to Bill Clinton (it has happened). It's a very small town.
|
I live 30 minutes from Manhatten -- never realized it was a big small town :P
|
Things are a lil different across the Hudson! You should move! What part of Jersey are you in?
|
I'm in bergen county -> Hit me up on icq 2929686 . i wanna hear more about your Hikki story ;)
|
Hey Pornwolf -- if you sent me a message last night I lost it -- Trillian was acting weird. Can you message me again?
