Any collectible/painting worth over $100,000,000 should be encased or surrounded by bulletproof glass 100% of the time, no acceptions.

Pete-KT 10-17-2006 10:47 AM

goes to show that its not just kids who make fuck ups on occasion, even the guys with milions tend to make mistakes. Have to remember that when my new kid runs a hammer into the mustang when running to the backyard to help me

I don't think so:

"Wynn suffers from an eye disease, retinitis pigmentosa, which affects his peripheral vision and therefore, occasionally, his interaction with proximate objects, and, without realizing it, he backed up a step or two as he talked."

BoyAlley 10-17-2006 10:53 AM

It's sad to hear about such an important part of art history being damaged.

I've owned several original Picassos, and still have several hanging on my walls. None of them are worth 140 million dollars though. He's my favorite artist:

Lee 10-17-2006 10:55 AM

One was destroyed in that Swissair crash that time.

edit: he had a buyer for 139 million ;)

"Cohen agreed to pay a hundred and thirty-nine million dollars for it, the highest known price ever paid for a work of art."

That's an important statement. There have no doubt been some HUGE HUGE HUGE dollar exchanges of art between private collectors that never hit the art world.

It's amazing the types of art related deals ultra rich do behind closed doors.

Fat Panda 10-17-2006 11:00 AM

i think think this is bogus

It was all over the local news here.

Very cool painting.

Stallion 10-17-2006 11:35 AM

ouch, that sucks..

Atticus 10-17-2006 11:37 AM

However it is not "destroyed". It has a 2 inch tear apparently that art restorers are currently fixing. Should be good as new within a couple of months they say.

he-fox 10-17-2006 11:37 AM

This kind of art's place is in museums, not in private collections.

OG LennyT 10-17-2006 11:38 AM

its insured

Drake 10-17-2006 11:39 AM

It should have been in a museum anyway.

free4porn 10-17-2006 11:46 AM

thats alot of cash

Irrum 10-17-2006 11:57 AM

I would die on the spot if I did that. Very interesting story.

Aneros Josh 10-17-2006 12:21 PM

Kind of reminds me of when Mr. Bean sneezes on the Whistler's Mother painting and when they unveil it, it has a big cartoon nose he drew with a sharpie...hahaha

A nice Miro with excellent provenance went through on Ebay UK earlier this year, went for around £10k which I thought was a steal. Only gonna soar in value.

XMaster 10-17-2006 04:37 PM
