"EMO" Chicks -- what is this bullshit...

Every dumb ass white chick with an identity crisis thinks she can just get some geeky glasses and get her hair done black -- and then call herself EMO -- what the fuck is this BS. It seems like it's taken the country by storm. Please explain it...

Here's my friend's cartoon -- tickle me EMO...

Squishy 07-03-2002 03:41 PM

I dunno...but girls in black thick glasses give me wood. I say go with it.

Fletch XXX 07-03-2002 03:44 PM

This like most things that get peoples attention nowadays, has been going on for a long time, it just hasnt made it to MTV, or it has now.

:1orglaugh

EMO chicks are like Goth girls except they listen to Weezer and wear stripes.

:1orglaugh

reddawg 07-03-2002 03:45 PM

Whatever, but what the hell does Emo mean? It don't sound sexy, or is she calling her snatch the emo, now I like that!

MiLo 07-03-2002 03:46 PM

Tell any Emo chick that you know one of the guys that play at The Get Up Kids... works like a charm if you want to nail her :)

reddawg 07-03-2002 03:47 PM

I must be to old, cause I don't get it:(

[Labret] 07-03-2002 03:49 PM

EMO means emotional.

Movement started in the early 90s with Fugazi and other emo bands.

Its really taken hold lately. Its actually been around for quite some time.

Huge EMO bands:

Poison The Well
From Autumn to Ashes
Boy Sets Fire
Brown Bike

Ties in with "Screamo". A blend of hardcore mixed with emo. Hence the term "screamo".

Here is some else take on EMO history and bullshit.

I say kill them all.

TheFLY 07-03-2002 03:50 PM

It's beyond a fad now -- it's like an epidemic...

I think if you're an EMO girl that means your bi-sexual.

[Labret] 07-03-2002 03:51 PM

EMo guys are the ones I want to kill

These new rock trends fucking suck. Bring back 80's rock anyday (even the hair band craze of the summer of '87 is better than what we have now!)

MiLo 07-03-2002 03:54 PM

Boy Sets Fire... i got a couple of CDs from them.. they sound nothing like an EMO band.. is much more like hardcore/metal stuff.

Anyway, EMO sucks.

jimmy3way 07-03-2002 04:04 PM

I want to fuck Lisa Loeb's brains out.

Ok makes sense -- my buddy is telling me these chicks cry at concerts... but that makes no sense to me -- because I hang out at the clubs where these chicks hang out and I've never seen one of them cry... to me they just look like social rejects (any combination of: anatomically wierd looking, lesbian, introvert, artist), or they're addicted or heroine, or they're not 21 yet so they can settle for the EMO coffee culture...

Ace-Ace 07-03-2002 04:10 PM

I've never even heard of the phrase "EMO"...

mike503 07-03-2002 04:12 PM

EMO is just a new spawn of goth.

goth shit was cool a couple years ago. by "cool" i mean "hey, if you don't know who you are.. go goth!!"

now it's emo.

might have been punk in between in there.

stupid trendy shit these days. i blame MTV.

That sad fact of the matter is, most people are ignorant to many forms of music, or any musical trends outside of MTV or some other mainstream music medium.

Trust me, there is music outside of MTV. Good music even.

Mr.Fiction 07-03-2002 08:49 PM

I would say that Dashboard Confessional is the most "emo" sounding band that's actually had a semi-hit so far.

A funny thing about new emo (not the old hardcore emo) is how it still hasn't gotten big after what, 10 years?. Bands like Promise Ring, Jets, ATDI, Dismemberment Plan, etc., are always on the brink of getting commercial airplay, but they've never quite made it. Now the emo/pop punk bands are starting to hit on radio and they're getting bigger than the "real" emo bands.

Look at Blink-ish emo bands like New Found Glory, Something Corporate, Midtown, etc. Those bands are getting big while the big scenester bands still haven't had a hit. Where is the Get Up Kids single? I haven't heard it.

For those of you that haven't gotten into it, there are a number of good bands in that scene. One that I like recently is Sparta. They are an ATDI offshoot band and, in some ways, I think they're better than ATDI.

nocostporn 07-03-2002 08:53 PM

i saw an emu once

I haven't heard them. Are they good? I used to work in the music industry, but it's been a few years. I don't know every single indie touring band anymore - I used to. :)

[Labret] 07-03-2002 09:00 PM

Oh, these are the new wonder kids of the emocore scene. Picked up by Victory. Sec and I will upload a song.

ha ha, I agree, they look slightly past the retarded line, but their look is less retarded than that whole "baggy shorts hanging from hips showing underwear" look all the young guys had a few years back

EMO girls --- That "zelda" haircut looks like it has some nice hair-handles to pull on for when they give you head. And I see their look requires a labret piercing too. heh heh heh, the term Labret piercing brings up some interesting images, heh heh.

[Labret] 07-03-2002 09:12 PM

Pretty typical emocore. Starts out like typical metalcore ala Darkest Hour, and then where normally you would get the breakdown and barking, you get the trademark emo bitch whining. These guys are getting huge right out the gate. For the uninitiated I dont mean huge like MTV huge, but huge for the core scene.

Unfortunately all these emo fruits have invaded the hardcore scene so everytime I go to shows I have to put up with them. Two years ago you never would have never seen a Sworn Enemy, Bulldoze NYHC style show with an emocore band thrown smack dab in the middle. Now they are common place because these bands pull pretty decent crowds.

I fucking hate emo kids with a burning passion.

meRx 07-03-2002 09:59 PM

Emo is GONE. Emo died long ago.
All self proclaimed EMO now whether its bands or people are wanna be's.
May they all burn.
:feels-hot

Also let me add the reason why the 'emo' look is getting big and out of hand is because of the way the mainstream music is now affecting todays teens. Jimmy Eat world used to be an indy band back in 96 with a ton of little 'emo' girl followers. NOW that they have blown out to mtv , girls see thier videos and other various X-indy artist videos and wish to be like them.
BANDWAGON JUMPING.
No self originality.
PERIOD.

Even if they were for free, the thought of an emo kid
going emotional over a Boy Sets Fire record makes me wanna puke!

My ex-girlfriend loved Dashboard Confessional :throwup BLARGH!

BTW Labret, ever heard of Killing Time?
I undusted their last record "The Method" from my
CD collection and been pumping them on my car
stereo for weeks now... great stuff to get into tune warfare with people listening to radio crap on their cars :thumbsup

Yes, the core isnt for eveyone.

An acquired taste. Its genius and beauty are in its subtleties. Angry music for angry white men.

The way you feel when you heard that, is the way I feel when I hear Limp Bizkit, 99% of rap and r and b, and anything you see on mtv. It brings me great pain.

Damn, its has to be hard dating an emo girl. All that whining and crying and shit. Who would have ever thought a whole scene would develop around whining about getting your feeling hurt and shit? It would be like dating a rape victim.

I saw Mad Caddies, a couple of months ago, they were opening at the nofx concert....Damn great show... :thumbsup

As for emo, I like some of the bands, but not the whole "mentality" behing the music...but I think that bands like at the drive-in, further seems forever or alkaline trio are pretty "listenable"...

MiLo 07-04-2002 12:35 AM

Less Than Jake had their stuff... but they came up with a really good record (i kinda liked the "Losing Streak" record) and then they released some really weak material... never been a big fan of them..

Mad Caddies is really cool! That is how skacore should be played!
Havenīt checked their latest album... still waiting to get it from my brother (he runs a record distro)

BTW last time i checked, my ex also liked Save Ferris :feels-hot

Everytime i go to my brotherīs house, heīs listening to Alkaline Trio.. and even if i tried to give it a really good listen to their stuff.. still sounds like Blink 182 imho...

BTW i was flipping channels tonight and i saw a "Jammed" program on MTV or whatever is called, at Blink 182 was playing live on it.... truly sounded like CRAP! Not only because in my opinion their style suck, but also because the bass sounded like hammering steel and the guitar had like zero distortion plus the guy canīt play shit. OVERALL: the suck in much so many different ways!

421Fill 07-04-2002 12:52 AM

Emo, I'm not too hip on, other than liking the girls ( they kinda remind me of the librarian that you just KNOW fucks like a slut ) but anytime Ska is mentioned I just have to pop in a Fishbone CD... thanks, now I'll probably wake up my g/f and she'll be, "WTF?!" LOL

Cool, Fishbone has some really good CDs out there.

But if we talk about roots.. you canīt miss to hit The Specials :thumbsup

Reverend Punchfucker 07-04-2002 07:44 AM

It's sad that so many people would talk shit about a whole genre of music that they know nothing about. Emo/Emo-core has been around for quite a while, in many different incarnations. It can be a hybrid of punk, metal, pop, indy, even some electronic. Most of you have probably unknowingly heard it before and liked it. Do your homework before you make an ignorant blanket statement. :GFYBand

Angelo (of Fishbone) is a very cool guy.

Got drunk in a bar with him once (some friends and myself, including Fletch), he was drinking blue "adios motherfucker's."

It was lots of fun. :)
