Attention All Adult Webmasters - Watch Your Galleries

Good day everyone,

I woke up on saturday with my blood pressure x2. Why?

Read this and you'll see why:
http://www.threadwatch.org/node/9350

As a case precedent in the sector and one of only 193 other websites worldwide hit by this. I was in a panic. How did this happen?

As you all know, pussy.org spiders galleries (and yes they are not my hosted ones - am i crazy? probably). Next week I will not spider galleries anymore but take submissions (hurrah) since I have been working on a new system for several months. Anyway before you all bitch at me, Ive made lots of money for people with their galleries on my site :P

So anyway, one of the galleries was redirecting to a virus at a certain location at a certain time. I have no idea where it was, or how to find it, because its gone now. But someone reported me to stopbadware.org and there it went. Half my SE traffic gone overnight, not because I lost the spot, not because I was banned, but because 10 harvard students decided they knew my site better than me.

Pussy.org never hosts any badware or malware on its site, the gallery was 3rd party.

Anyway, after calling the private numbers email address and faxes of every person at the organisation on the sunday and emailing every single staff member, adding them all on facebook, sending messages to all their friends, they finally decided I was crazy, got scared, and have told me a few minutes ago that the warning will be gone by close of business today.. Still 3 days and 300,000 surfers lost - the question - sue or not to sue?

I put it to you... never the less. IF you accept submissions, or IF you spider galleries, im warning you, this could happen to you like it did to me... Every other website owner I have found have taken months to get this warning removed.

Galleries beware!!!!!

Regards,
JB:Oh crap

Tom_PM 10-16-2006 01:54 PM

Wow man, that sucks bad. People who try to police the internet like a crusade are really a problem. You can't just decide you KNOW something and then just cause hell because you've convinced yourself.

If it was a third party gallery/domain, then you'd think a Harvard student would understand. :pimp

JD 10-16-2006 01:57 PM

damn dude that's pretty shitty

RyuLion 10-16-2006 01:57 PM

shit..this sucks!

sandman! 10-16-2006 02:01 PM

damm that sucks ass :(

he-fox 10-16-2006 02:03 PM

this is what a PA system is good for, you know your partners and build a trust-based biz relationship with them.

btw, got any PA for a trustworthy submitter?:winkwink:

RedShoe 10-16-2006 02:04 PM

madness.

RawAlex 10-16-2006 02:05 PM

Don't list anything with javascript or an iframe on it.

Don't list anything that links off the domain in question.

Recheck everything on your site very day.

The only way.

Alex

Wait...wait a minute... you're saying all religious zealots are wrong?

QuaWee 10-16-2006 02:05 PM

ugh, that sucks ass. i have been hearing that sites that promote Zango are getting hit hard too

MacDevilish 10-16-2006 02:05 PM

Could this be something having to do with the type of redirects that a site is using?

TheSwed 10-16-2006 02:09 PM

Antonio 10-16-2006 02:15 PM

if you can sue - fucking do it, that means uber big bucks altough with the wording they have "the site you are about to visit MAY harm your computer" not sure if you have a case but speak to a lawyer anyway

Tim 10-16-2006 02:16 PM

:(

JB, could you hit me up when you have a moment?

Jon - Pussy.org 10-16-2006 02:16 PM

Want some further irony?

Another reason why this organisation wont last:

http://www.stopbadware.org/home/story

I quote their website:
Tell us your badware story

StopBadware.org's research agenda is led by people like you who tell us what badware you've encountered and how you got it. Since StopBadware.org started half a year ago, we've tested a number of applications that users told us about, including Kazaa, Zango Easy Messenger, SpyAxe, and Funcade. To tell us about badware or badware-distributing sites that you've encountered, please fill out and submit the form below. If you have technical expertise, please consider filling out a technical report here.

hmm lets see
kazaa and zango...

http://www.google.com/interstitial?u...zangocash.com/
http://www.google.com/interstitial?u...www.zango.com/
http://www.google.com/interstitial?u...www.kazaa.com/

OH thats funny!!! neither of these domains have a block and dont have an interstitial!! what a coincidence.

bastards....

i am hoping that it is fixed today so it doesnt come to that..

Ross 10-16-2006 02:34 PM

That really blows. When you listed my galleries on the odd occasion you found them the traffic from you was awesome. Will there be free submissions or are you gonna go down the road of submitpasses.com or something?

Ahhh right ok. Well I'll be doing my best to find out how to get those exclusive partner accounts. Your traffic is excellent.

I icq'd you as well, didn't see you had replied to this thread.

tranza 10-16-2006 02:55 PM

The best part about your post is that you'll start taking submissions soon....

:)

tranza 10-16-2006 02:58 PM

One thing I didn't get is: who would you sue exactly?

Lee 10-16-2006 02:59 PM

Are you selling passes? I would be very interested if so as youve spidered mine in the past and its all good.

Tuga 10-16-2006 03:05 PM

That really sucks, but if your site was linking to a gallery with virus on it, what do you expect? Sure, it's not your fault, it's the guy who made that gallery and redirected, that's why cheaters are a pain in the ass, that's why we have to deal with them. The fact is your site was linking to a virus, so they blocked it. I'm sure you were very pissed, but now the block is off, think about it... they had a reason to block you. You linked to a virus.

Good luck moving to submit.

your thought process makes 0 sense.

that would then mean you could blame search engines for all or any of their questionable links.

you should not be punished for the questionable acts of others.

Its a good point and i asked myself that question, but here are the arguments against

1) Links - everyone links everyone - thats the internet - you cant blame the linker for the linkees actions.

2) No Warning - stopbadware made no attempt to warn or contact me... that is the worst part..

3) Its not algorithmic, its academic and subject - that is against googles methodology.

4) Inconsistency - the organisation is too manual and not consistency in its evaluations as i said before - check zango + kazaa, they dont have blocks, neither does AOL which they did a "big investigation" into.

5) Lack of reliable reports - I have had no access or chance to see what was reported, all I have been told by stopbadware is that they cant find the evidence anymore and are lifting the block - where are their frameshots? their logging + documentation?

i cant imagine 10 harvard students clicking links on pussy.org all day. I wonder if they enjoyed it.

JB

Was the block on your full site? As In you couldn't access it at all? I'm in Scotland and I was on your site 5 minutes ago and it loaded perfectly fine for me.

fris 10-16-2006 03:27 PM

pussy.org traffic rocks, sucks that you have to stop spidering cause of trojan fuckers, wonder who else will do this, i know catlist and all his sites spider.

Via google, if you type pussy, and click pussy.org, you get (or got, i am in limbo) an interstitial warning before going to pussy.org.

Brujah 10-16-2006 03:30 PM

Jon,

Notice the "red" comments? Especially the last one? haha.

thanks karl

he-fox 10-16-2006 03:32 PM

The block is on here. My guess is that Tuga went typing, not through Google

Aan_Missy 10-16-2006 03:34 PM

That sounds like a nightmare for you. I hope it gets fixed.

RawAlex 10-16-2006 03:37 PM

Jon, I hope you get it all fixed... and of course,if you are giving out partner accounts... I am rather a straight arrow :) 64-103-248 :)

The pornsite itself is clean, but it gives links to red sites, which mostly have browser violations or adware, spyware or virusses. If you would like to enjoy your porn, check out www.myfreepaysite.com

lets hope not or googlebowling will have a whole new meaning.

I tried to get that out of the people on the phone, one second they hinted it was automatic, the next second they hinted it was manual.

What i did have to do was write a crazy email about how my systems have advanced checkers in that she said would be presented to google to remove it.

Beats me what that means, but i made the email sound good.. :)

Tuga 10-16-2006 03:53 PM

The thing is badware is a fucking big problem, like GFY has learned this week. And if anyone tries to stop it, some good guys are going to get hurt now and then. It's the only way to do it, as long as you can prove your point and lift the block in a short time, I'm glad they are blocking suspect sites. And I know I may be next, but I'll risk it if that stops the real thieves.

I don't see problem with spidering though, a year ago when I was involved in adult search engine project we had our spider build in a way to check for "suspicious activity" of indexed pages. It would check if page is up, if it has any popups, redirects, jacavscripts, activex and other embedded objects. The challenge was once indexed pages database builds to a large amount, to effectively revisit indexed sites so we had to come up with some dynamic scheduling techniques but that's a matter of different topic.

What I?m saying is if you have a spider collecting urls technically it?s possible to have it revisit and recheck pages automatically or have a different spider doing specifically just that. Even if you collect hand submissions it?s better to have something on the background periodically checking listed urls.

On top of that give your visitors easy reporting means to report bad links so your system could react to it instantaneously. bad link sent to the system, system sends that link to spider to check out if anything has changed there...

SomeCreep 10-16-2006 04:58 PM

Sad. This day and age, there just isnt any valid reason to list submitted galleries anymore (unless the TGP is making money by charging webmasters to submit). The future of TGPs can accurately be summarized in 3 words: Free hosted galleries.
