Ever get frustrated by other people's lack of respect..?

I have several projects on the go that are delayed indefinitely waiting for outside parties to either complete tasks or supply me with information.

Do you ever get frustrated when someone messes with your timelines? As we all know, time is indeed money and any delays or setbacks can have large impact on your projects.

Imagine a designer flakes on you, leaves you hanging for 3 months, your timeline is competely blown if you don't give up a lot sooner then 3 months I'm sure. How do you know when to give up on someone? What if there aren't any other options?

Is it just a part of business that we all have to learn to live with? How do you deal with it?

You always plan for option two, three, and four.
You always plan for someone to fuck you.
You cordinate everything super carefully.

squishypimp 10-16-2006 12:54 PM

...your backup plan has to have a backup plan, and you should always be 'set' to run with not-the-optimal-but-works-well-clean-up-later as far as designs go. I don't like it either.

Sometimes the only option is, there are no other options, so in one of my projects, do I just live with the person dicking me around? I've been waiting 10 days for information, I've emailed and called to death, but still don't have the basic information I need to move forward. I even sent them a motivational gift, I'm still left hanging.

You can't plan for any other eventuality then people don't take your timelines into account when they're busy ignoring you, I guess.

Learn up and do it yourself...(or train others, you trust to do it)

Or get mainstream folk to do it... They seem much more reliable than some folk in this industry..

If it's not healthy for you and your business doing business with these kind of people, then don't give them another chance!

fris 10-16-2006 08:07 PM

it seems lots of coders and designers on here are flakes, once you find a good one, stick with him/her

E$_manager 10-16-2006 09:03 PM

Sounds awful. I know what you are talking about.

Spunky 10-16-2006 09:05 PM

I have yet to meet a designer who delivers on the required date..when they say 2 weeks they mean a month to 6 weeks..frustrating as hell

Mrs. Lenny2 10-16-2006 09:07 PM

I'm sorry to hear about your troubles, Joel. I hope they are resolved very soon.

Aquarius 10-16-2006 09:08 PM

Yeah, it sucks.

iwantchixx 10-16-2006 10:25 PM

sometimes you just have to grab the nearest farm animal and release frustration upon their holes.

uno 10-16-2006 10:35 PM

For important projects try to set up redunancy. If party A flakes, which should be stipulated in a contract if you go that route, have a party B waiting on the wings with a possible party C to do the work.

Well, we aint really looking for perfect business transactions/partners anyway. Just people who knows how to keep track with deadlines. as simple as that.

Vitasoy 10-17-2006 12:13 AM

Relying on people can definitely get frustrating

I agree with this.

What the fuck is wrong with people? I'm paying you money, so get your ass up and deliver the work as promised.

I hate dealing with people.

Wrong.

I am perfect.

When I do stuff myself, everything works out great and on time.
