Guns do not equal bad. They have practical purposes that do not hurt people. I don't know any purposes spyware have that do not hurt people. Spyware was created to screw the surfer and us.

There is nothing legitimate about software which is designed solely to intercept traffic intended for another destination, without the consent or participation of the site which generates the traffic.

That said, if there were no market for scumware, no-one would waste their time producing it. Our real problem is with the affiliates who promote the installs and the sponsors who - while wanting us to believe we are working together - are using scumware to steal from us. The expression "I wouldn't waste my p*ss on them if they were on fire" seems appropriate.

Did you read all of the terms before you installed XP? I doubt it.

Zango uses the ultimate "magicians flash paper" to get installs done... basically, they offer something for "free", but the reality is it isn't free because the scumware is coming along for the ride. Yes, it is in the terms, but think about it: Do you think anyone would just go and intentional infect their PC with Zango? Nope.

Ever see those ads on TV for FREE CREDIT REPORT? That ain't free either...

Yea those guys got a good scam going as well. I remember checking out that free credit report offer and found out there is no way you will ever get a free credit report out of them. I cant believe they havnt been sued yet as well

I'm not even going to go the route of blaming the surfer. Back when Zangocash were Loudcash I had a few rants on NP about people promoting them. On checking someone's site who I knew had added the loudcash code, I discovered the active-x pop-up was claiming to be an age verifier and was basically telling the surfer they "had" to click ok and install the software to verify they were old enough to view the porn content of the site.

It was definitely Loudcash's way, the wm was a relative newbie and wouldn't have had a clue how to set up active-x himself, he just copied and pasted the code Loudcash gave him to promote them with.

I know a lot of it is games/videos and not reading the license agreement as they install them, but how many of surfers were infected by being mislead that they had to verify their age?

Rebel, my contention is that even the current level of disclosure is still dishonest or at least more than a little misleading. IN order to watch a 30 second video, you have to install a software product that is diffuclt to remove and will be around with you for much longer than 30 seconds. For me, there is something wrong with a "free and the fuck you" tied sale when the "fuck you" part has significantly more value than the free part.

Cost of streaming the video is what, 1 cent? Value of the first click is probably 10 times that. The value to Zango for each install has to be overwhemlingly higher than the value of what they give away.

Something tells me there is something to work on there.

Zango gets installed when webmasters infect their users... If I had a nickle for every adult site I've seen running their ads and installs I'd be done creating shit and living the good life right now.
