BellSouth is *&^%ed up!
 

So Friday afternoon I am trying to send some business related e mails to business partners in other countries while I am chatting with them on ICQ. And they are not receiving the e mails. This goes on for multiple attempts so I decide to do some test e mails and then call my ISPS... Good ole BellSouth.

Long story short... they are killing any e mails being sent out that contain adult URLs in them. Now here is the real bitch. The thing that makes this even more stupid then the obvious censorship issue. I CAN receive e mails with adult links in them... oh yeah, they don?t block that, but if I receive an e mail with an adult URL in it and I reply to it (without putting an adult URL in it) they will see the original instance and kill the e mail!!!!

During the phone call where I was more then a bit incredulous, they said about the only option they saw would be to upgrade to their business package which is about $60 more per month and the only thing is, that still wouldn't fix the problem. But they might be able to allow port 25 to be opened so I wouldn?t be forced to use their stupid SMTP in my outgoing!!

If you have BellSouth, you might want to do a few tests to make sure your e mails are actually going out because the only way to tell is to send a test to yourself with adult URLs in them and see if they make it to your inbox.

I have Bellsouth DSL, but I don't use their e-mail so I don't know if that issue affets me. Just be aware that Bellsouth is going to be a part of at&t soon so they probably don't give a shit right now anyways.

That's pretty shitty. Wonder if it that practice will filter up to the revamped Bell monopoly, if it hasn't already.

beats me, the worst part is where I live it is the ONLY really good connection. I have their 6Mbps down 2Mbps up connection and it is really reliable but doesn't do me a bit of good if i cant do any real business over e mail :(

that sucks. Can they really censor your email like that. I think an attorney would tell you that violates some civil rights. Not sure, but just my :2 cents:. I hate bellsouth anyway, too bad your stuck with them.

How are you getting 2 MB up? I have the 6 Mbps package and I only get 512 kbps up.

Yeah, they really can do that... they did it heh heh I would bet anything that the reason they are doing it is to prevent spammers from sending out their trash over bellsouth smtp... but the thing is spammers dont generally use adult domains, they use domains like http://www.gndhhhfyds.biz or something

its crazy and stupid and bellsouth said it would have to wait until about Wednesday of this week to get the issue resolved... and thats only IF it gets resolved then :(

my bad, just checked with the wife and we have the 512 up as well :(
there 'fast access DSL extreme' package... I have no idea why I thought me got 2Mbps up... geesh I wish!

Comcast isn't available here.. there is only one other ISPS in the area and it is basically a mom & pop that costs a lot more then BellSouth and delivers less. Even AOL broadband isn't available here and i'd rather have no connection then AOL :)
