"Despite this practice having been around since at least 2004, it seems the adult webmasters are only just realizing this takes place — surprising, considering how deeply connected the worlds of adware and porn are."

LOL take a survey, Will is the slow one. ;)

Dirty F 10-14-2006 02:02 PM

I heart Zango.

Did you start promoting them already?

How well are you doing with them?

I made a site with their promo tools. Havent sent traffic yet. Will start sending some tomorrow or so.

RawAlex 10-14-2006 02:16 PM

Slahsdot seriously doesn't get it.

The adult industry has lived with shaving of one form or another since the first click was counted. We have lived with adware, spyware, and other bullshit for years as well.

The difference at this point is the volume of installs that zango is managing, and their marketing direct by DOMAIN target... a practice which pretty much everyone has stopped.

Darkjedi, seriously, if you ARE promoting Zango, you are taking small money now and selling yourself up the river later, Small minded small business man!

This stuff has been around for several years.
Hiding in counters, toolbars etc etc.
And still there are those that dont understand.
Again...all they want to know is who is buying the next round at a show.

Recent history does show some of those that are guilty of using this as a marketing channel are again returning to adult.

I guess in the long run between the legal fees and the heat from the FTC its not quite as profitable as they thought.

quantum-x 10-14-2006 02:19 PM

oh fuck, now there are slashdot gimps to content with

llporter 10-14-2006 02:19 PM

Sure, if they purely interested in "increasing shareholder value," then I can understand that they would, but could there not be suppliers of pornography who care about public reccomendation/honour/honesty?

wow some of the comments on their don't seem friendly towards the adult industry at all...

CaptainHowdy 10-14-2006 02:39 PM

$.45 per install... YUM :)?

Screaming 10-14-2006 02:40 PM

.45 an install isnt worth it really.

If they offered some real $ alot of people here would be all over it.

Sarah_Jayne 10-14-2006 02:45 PM

the comment about child webmasters not caring was kind of funny

There are other options if you want to promote adware, Zango is not the only one around. I've seen pleople paying as high as $1.10 per install.

Seems like several childish webmasters have found their way into this thread and since you have been in England a while Sarah, I'm sure you are familiar with the expression about someone who "couldn't run a piss-up in a brewery" :)

This industry has far too many ambitionless morons who couldn't get a clue even if someone handed them a real business on a plate.

seeric 10-14-2006 05:07 PM

adult biz is one giant zango in its own right.

No shit. That is because most surfers are pissed off with having to deal with the scum of our industry. It makes it easier to call us all trash. Adult is looked down on enough as it is without all the spyware, spam, and popup hell. Ironically they somehow also block out that most big mainstream sites on line use popups, or the popup that covers the whole page, or flashing banner ads all over the place.

Sadly the adult industry needs to police itself. If some of the bigger sites would take a hard stance on not allowing this type of shit and close down the accounts that are trying to profit of off it, maybe people would start to look at adult differently. Unfortunately I don't think this will happen, because if there is a buck to be made off of it someone will try and get it by any means possible.

Being an adult webmaster, I know I'll already be looked down on (for no good reason). What really sucks is I get associated with the scum of this industry when in fact I am not.

LiveDose 10-14-2006 05:31 PM

Where ever there is money to be made, people will use any tactics. It's business.

fuzebox 10-14-2006 05:33 PM

:1orglaugh I was reading this earlier today... As hilarious as some of the replies are, I'm not surprised at all. Most techies (who don't work in adult) hate our industry...

madawgz 10-14-2006 05:41 PM
