Here's an idea for a cool / useful mainstream site...
I have too many projects to be taking on anymore, just came up with this idea...
There are a few forums that have website reviews / critique sections (like on sitepoint for example), and basically webmasters with new sites request critiques and people respond with constructful criticism about the positives / negatives of the site (design, layout, flow, usability, objectives, etc...) Well how about a site dedicated solely to that? Here's how it would work. If you have a website you want critiqued, you have to signup (free), and critique at least 5 or 10 others (OR pay $14.95 to avoid having to critique anything). The way the critique system would work is it would ask the webmaster 5 URL's of the site that he wants critiqued (ie: home page, tour page, order pages, etc...). And they would also provide a few sentances of what exactly they're interested in hearing about (ie: sales pitch, design, usability)... Then for those who critique, the critique system would load up the site with a column (right aligned or left aligned), with the rating form options inside of it... There would be rating systems (1-10) for design, usability, sales pitch effectiveness, ad copy, etc...) and 2 textboxes for a mandatory "Note the strength / Note the weakness of this page". Then they hit "Next", and repeat the process for the rest of the requested pages. Since design/layout is universally (usually) the same across 1 site, it would autofill the layout boxes from the first page. So once your website begins receiving critiques, it will post you the results and you will begin seeing things you might not otherwise see without the reviews/critiques. Now some might say, "But what about people who try to get critique credits quickly and don't even pay attention to critquing sites good at all?" Well, you can counter that by requiring the people who want to see each critique, to critique other people's critiques (rating them 1-10). If a person is a good critiquer, (above 5 rating), they earn points points. If a person is bad, they're eventually banned from critiquing. I think it's a damn good idea. :) Would love to build this myself. It uses the same exact structure as garagebands.com, except their system is geared towards rating songs and not websites ;) |
do you think there can be a good demand for such a site?

Saw an established site like that sell on ebay for about 3k, was run by a designer who upsold her services. It was something like yoursite.net or something like that.
