Who here has Paraskevidekatriaphobia?

Fear of Friday the 13th

Why is this day considered unlucky?

Do you believe it is?

The only thing I really fear is a dolphin. Dolphins send shivers down my spine every time I see those bastards. As for friday the 13th, the only thing scary about it is a slew of horrible movies.

Triskaidekaphobia (fear of the number thirteen) isn't only related to Fridays: in many parts of the world, Tuesday is the feared "13th".

No-one seems to know how the two elements came together or what were their individual origins. By the Middle Ages, Friday was already considered an unlucky day, perhaps because Christ was crucified on a Friday. However that is at odds with references to Good Friday being the only Friday which is not unlucky.

Superstition about the number 13 arrived much later, not until the 18th century and no-one seems certain where it came from although some say it is because Judas was the 13th disciple.

Whatever the reason, fear of the number 13 became more widespread during the 19th century, but it was only about an hundred years ago that the two superstitions were combined.

Foolish maybe, but Wikipedia notes it is estimated that US business loses $800-$900 million dollars each Friday 13th because of people staying at home, unwilling to travel.

Nope, don't live near an ocean or marine park so thank Lord Archiot I don't see those smiling bastard dolphins too often. But every time I see one of those n1ggers smile and spew their evil and dreadful cackling it sends shivers down my spine. The dolphins are planning something huge...

actually it was always considered unlucky because the King of France arrested and killed almost all the Knights Templars on October the 13th (to be known as 'black friday') in the year of our lord, 1307.

Only thing is that that was when we were using the Julian Calendar, now that we're using the Gregorian calendar the aniversary of 'Black Friday' would be on Thursday the 26th

I have to watch some Jason and Freddy movies on the 13th. I fear breaking this tradition might lead to bad luck and unpleasant death
