Depends on how long you have to invest it. There are always CDs and whatnot..

Personally, I'd stick out of the tech sector, and go into things with slower, more reasonable growth... I still feel the dotcon, er, dotcom sting.

It depends on your definition of safe. If you want really safe, go laddered ibonds or the like. Even CDs.

If you're in it for the long haul mix it up. Some indexes (spiders, S&P, etc.), quality paper, and those above.

If you aren't risk averse, throw real estate in the mix.

Had you not said "safe" I would have thrown growing your web business into the mix.

yeah thats where im at right now ( real easte) but i have quite a bit of cash i need to put somewhere (not too risky) where i could pull 5% + relatively safe

Real estate - possibly land only tho depends where you are and the opportunities locally. All the crap about buying homes and renting just means more work and hassle - even if you use an agent.

5% on a decent land investment is easy - have been getting between 35% - 60% annually for a good few years now. They don't manufacture land any more :)
