Breaking News: Internet Explorer Still Sucks

Data released by Net Applications this week indicates that Microsoft's Internet Explorer browser continues to lose ground to alternatives such as Mozilla's Firefox and Apple's Safari. During the month of September, IE ranked number one by a wide margin, but its total market share of 82.1 percent was its lowest in over two years.

seriously though, the only reason I use firefox is because of the tabs feature. But other than that its slower than explorer. So whatever I guess.

squishypimp 10-12-2006 10:17 PM

IE is still better than Firefox. Only reason people think ff is safer is that hackers haven't been exploiting it's many security holes yet because it hasn't been worth it. But I guess with more and more people using it it is just a matter of time. Somehow I doubt they will be as fast to patch their shit as MS when severe security threats are exposed

yeah its a good point.. :)

Funny I read and article that states just the opposite

"However, Dutch analytics firm OneStat.com offered a contrary report of the market. It claims Internet Explorer reclaimed nearly 3 percentage points worldwide, while Firefox usage has dropped 1.44 percent in the same timeframe. According to OneStat, IE holds 85.85 percent of the global browser market."

You're joking, right? Microsoft spends the first several weeks to several months denying that problem even exists or blaming it on third party software before they even admit that there is a problem. The open source community is FAR more respsonsive to security threats. Open source does have its problems and they are not insignificant, but the time in which security stuff is being taken care of in open source is very impressive.

marketsmart 10-13-2006 05:50 PM

IE always sucks :1orglaugh

s9ann0 10-13-2006 05:58 PM

never used it

most of the recent holes have been patched quickly. ie is slowly getting better at that , the new ie has all the features of firefox , is faster and works. Firefox has open holes right now ( i.e. has a few too ) , but in comparison to users firefox isnt much better for security. if they gain market share they will gain exploits 2 :)

i use i.e. 99% of the time have for years , i only use firefox to see if things works properly ( and they never do )

KRL 10-13-2006 08:08 PM

Firefox is soooooooooo much better than IE. Only time I use IE now is just to double check site designs in IE.

Firefox actually requires you to close your tags and (gasp!) write code according to standard. I hate it when I actually have to do something right in order to make it render on my end user's screens. :1orglaugh :1orglaugh

Firefox has some really nice exensions now, like the javascript blocking one which improves security.
