AMD or Intel?
Which is better?

personally i would go with AMD as they are cheaper, take less power, and are just generally a better solution.

AMD baby....AMD
pr0 powered by amd since 03' unless its video editing/production...then go mac |
I have seen similar threads on this subject before. lately I have been hearing and reading about how much better the Intel Duo core are performing but I have AMD and with 2gb of ram it is smoking.

As of right now the Intel Core 2 Duo ( not to be confused with their Pentium D Duo Core ) wipes AMD's ass. Before Core 2 Duo came out AMD was the best. I think AMD has some new shit coming out next year so we'll see how that goes.

less power - not always better solution - nope |
AMD works much better then intel and are perfect and powerful cpu's for home use, good performance and good prices as well...:)

dollar for dollar my intels are faster than my amd's at video encoding if you are using for a general purpose pc its a matter of preference, like asking if you like pepsi or coke. |
the intel core 2 e6600-6700 and ex6800 are all out doing the amd Athlon 64 fx-62 in all benchmarks for photoshop/premiere/xvid dvd capture (hell benchmarks for damn near anything)
|
The new intel dual cores are burning AMD ez
|
AMD + ATI = ownage :)
|
the intel core 2 duos are the performance bargain of the moment..

Look and warship AMD is fucking better then INTEL on every test that was made on CNET. http://reviews.cnet.com/4520-10442_7-6389077-9.html?tag=btn Take a look at this results... :) It wasn't even close. After reading the round-by-round account of our dual-core desktop CPU prizefight, it should come as no shock that AMD's Athlon 64 X2 chips are the runaway victors here, laying out the Intel Pentium D and Pentium Extreme Edition 840 chips pins up. If we had to call out one chip, AMD's Athlon 64 X2 4400+ is an outstanding bargain given the competition, but as our results show, any AMD dual-core CPU will serve you better than its similarly priced Intel equivalent. |

And cost 2x less. |
amd was the king until the core 2 duo, its not even a quesiton which chip is the best, get a damn core 2 duo!
|
Been using Intel eversince :)

it doesn't look like AMD has anything but pricing to compete but if you are going on some less powerfull cpu versions AMD can be a good powerFULL solution. |
not going to go wrong with either one in my opinion.

Currently, Intel has better chips... But they are also more expensive. Some support twice the speed on the front side bus and have over a meg in cache memory.
But when you compare prices, AMD's $250 chip kicks Intels $250 chips ass. However, when you get into the $550+ range (AMD's top chip), Intels chip in that range will beat the AMD by a small margin... The gap only widens when you go past AMD's top chip and move into the $800+ price range, which is an area AMD doesn't have a chip to compete in. So... If you are building a system you want to work on without video editing, go with AMD... If you need video editing, go with Intel only if your budget can afford to build a computer around that technology. Remember, the faster bus speed also means you will need a more expensive motherboard and a much more expensive set of RAM chips. 4gigs and an AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800 inside a decent box with a 160gig ATA hard drive will set you back about $1100... An Intel Core 2 Duo Extreme with the same setup would set you back about $2500 - $3000... Figure out your budget and needs and go from there... Also a footnote, remember that the AMD chips is going to be 4 times faster than your current chip in the first place... so moving from a Nissan Sentra to a BMW might be enough for you... do you really need a Ferrari? |
I like Intel better, mainly because I like Intel boards..
But I have never done bench mark tests. |
