Ensim or Plesk or cPanel ?

which server panel do you prefer?

have no experience with cPanel, so how is it?

NinjaSteve 10-12-2006 07:14 AM

i prefer cpanel

mike217 10-12-2006 07:18 AM

I use Cpanel mostly. Do you find it has greater advantages than the others listed above. I haven't used Cpanel too much, but it seems the best I have used so far.

Adultnet 10-12-2006 07:19 AM

I like cpanel ..:)

darksoul 10-12-2006 07:28 AM

none is better

flashfreak 10-12-2006 07:30 AM

cpanel.

plesk sucks

Lycanthrope 10-12-2006 07:54 AM

Direct Admin

TheMaster 10-12-2006 07:55 AM

at first I had Plesk, but then changed to Ensim, but I guess I'll give cPanel a change now

thanks you guys for the advice

Spudstr 10-12-2006 07:55 AM

cpanel is simple to use, plesk is more secure and has more functionality.

oh no, had that on one server and it takes forever to setup everything

J.P. 10-12-2006 07:58 AM

the best is to have a good sysadmin :)

The best would be nothing, but these days people are too lazy to learn anything, so they NEED a control panel to do anything.

Direct Admin is by far the fastest, and least system resource intensive CP out there. We have used them all, and DA blows the rest away.

What was too hard to setup? The install of the CP, or your domains and such? Our customers tell us all the time how much they like it, and how easy it is to use. Seems very odd you had trouble with it.

cPanel is the biggest CPU hog of them all. Not to mention the countless exploits it has had. One just a week ago. Think of all those machines out there running it that haven't been fixed yet. Disturbing to say the least. IMHO it is total garbage.

GrouchyAdmin 10-12-2006 09:22 PM

They all fucking suck.

If you want one that doesn't kill the machine it's running on, you want Direct Admin.

If you are too lazy or inept to learn UNIX/Linux, you want CPanel.

If you don't mind things being even quirkier than CPanel, you want Plesk.

I hope this has helped.

Pointless 10-12-2006 09:24 PM

cpanel

:thumbsup

Did someone piss in your control panel today, or what? I stated in plain english which is quite similar to that stated by TwinTone. The truth is that CPanel is the only one I've seen where you can pay to have someone else bail you out when shit hits the fan - in a timely manner, at least. If you want to take that as a personal insult, feel free.

I'd rather go without a control panel, but ensim is the most secure, and the least resource intensive.

According to some people I know, there are 3 0day cpanel exploits out in the wild.

chaze 10-12-2006 10:05 PM

cpanel for sure, talk about a time saver and easy to use.

Now if they could just not attract so many bugs.

also fantastico is great add-on for cpanel.

Because we have all this extra time to install scripts? All I'm saying is 2 minutes to hit a button, 2 hours to set up from scratch.

Time is more important then impressing your tech friends.

squishypimp 10-12-2006 10:13 PM

have you used it?

SinSational 10-12-2006 10:38 PM

i've used them all. i like what we are using now best...controlzx (controlzx.com).
it does not take over the server, it can be installed/uninstalled whenever.
it's by far the fastest panel out of the ones named above and barely uses any server resources.

That wasn't the fucking point. Fantastico is loaded up with many outdated scripts, and most of them are suseptable to several security holes. I know what you're thinking, "They regularly update it", well many of the updates are not released immediately, and it's generally safer to just run a manual installation.

If you rely on it, you're just not smart. Script installations do not take a long time if you know what you're doing.

Vitasoy 10-13-2006 01:28 AM

cPanel is what I use on my server

ComicPoon 10-13-2006 01:29 AM

I love cpanel :) :thumbsup

In mainstream hosting, we have a lot of non-computer savy customers. They are not retards, just not knowledgeable.
Cpanel saves the client and the host a lot of aggravation.
Adding Fantastico makes it even smoother, plus nice skins.

Not all clients are adult computer geek ... :2 cents:

en21 10-13-2006 08:26 AM

depends on what OS u r running..

CPANEL is great with centOS/Redhat/Fedore ... and not so much with FreeBSD
DirectAdmin is great with almost all the OS

But when the client's joomla installation gets compromised because fantastico installed some old, and vulnerable version, it causes an even greater headache.

rick-e 10-13-2006 12:33 PM

Cpanel is very user friendly, go for it :thumbsup

:1orglaugh :1orglaugh :1orglaugh

Do you think those clients will update their scripts ???? Joomla, Wordpress and so on ... You must be kidding... Virtual hosting clients don't even know what a "security flaw " is ... The site fucking works, that is it ...
And I can tell you that this is true also for many virtual adult clients... Maybe the guys with dedicated take care of security, but that is it....
:2 cents:

sorry, had it confused with Webmin

Herb Kornfield 10-13-2006 07:03 PM

I dont mind Hsphere... use it now, gets the job done.

Cpanel is pretty ok as well for me.

Mostly, its have a managed host and not have to fuck with any of them.
