Death-row prisoner gets pregnant in solitary
 

HANOI (Reuters) - A death-row inmate held in solitary confinement in Vietnam for almost a year is pregnant and is seeking a pardon to give birth, a newspaper reported on Thursday.

The Lao Dong (Labour) newspaper quoted a police doctor as saying tests in September confirmed that convicted heroin trafficker Nguyen Thi Oanh, 39, was then 11 weeks pregnant.

The report said it was the first time that a death-row prisoner had become pregnant in Vietnam and that police were investigating how it had happened.

Oanh's husband was serving a jail sentence at another prison in another province, the newspaper said.

Oanh was due to face a firing squad this year after losing her appeal against the death sentence she received last year for possession of a billion dong ($63,000) worth of heroin.

Trafficking more than 600 grams of heroin in Vietnam is punishable by death or life imprisonment.

I read a true crime novel recently about a girl who is in prison here in the US for having her husband murdered. She was facing the death penalty, and in solitary for the purpose of suicide watch. Somehow or other she corresponded with another male inmate and made a deal with him to have him shoot his load into a rubber glove and have the sperm smuggled under her door, where she would try to impregnate herself. She attempted this thinking they would not sentence an expectant mother to death. Pretty fucking sneaky if you ask me; only problem is, she didn't end up getting pregnant from it.

Probably not. Don't forget there already is a death penatly for hard drug dealers in the cities... it's just usually handed out by rival dealers. I doubt a thing at all would change.

I personally think it?d be much less pain involved with getting a few bullets through the skull and destroying your brain matter nearly instantly from the shock/concussive force rather than slowly be put to death with a few chemicals (just imagine how it?d feel for you to be able to feel your heart slowly stop beating, your body burning from being unable to breathe in oxygen. Awesome!) over a matter of minutes.
