wordpress/blog question..

Ive been using wp for my blogs but keep hearing from users of other scripts that wp isnt that search engine friendly. Can someone give me a reason why? and what blog software is better for seo?

Wordpress is search engine friendly, a lot webmasters use it so their must be something good about it :)
There was talk about a couple nofollow tags in the blogs, but you can remove those with a plugin. Well maybe those nofollow tags are removed in recent versions. You have to take a peek at your html code to find out.

By default (and I have no idea why they haven't got around to changing it), WordPress is not alone in making links in the format of .../?p=12 or whatever. However, most of the people who use this as an excuse to say WP is not SE friendly have an agenda, because it takes only a few seconds in WP's admin to select a friendlier alternative.

Don't believe everything you hear for sure.

Very easy modifications can make wordpress extremely se friendly.

Jace 10-12-2006 05:37 AM

wordpress is by far the easiest and best blog engine for search engines, don't believe whoever is telling you that

King Soil 10-12-2006 05:38 AM

what are some suggested modifications or plugins for making it more seo friendly? Sorry if I am a bit uneducated here. :helpme

Basic_man 10-12-2006 05:51 AM

From my experience, I can say WP IS SE friendly :)

do your mod rewrite first, that is key above all else

PERMALINKS!

SkinMerchant 10-12-2006 05:53 AM

It's easy. In the WP admin, got to Options and then select Permalinks. There, you'll be able to select with a simple radio button whether or not you want your URLs to look like /date/postname etc. or do what I believe SE's like (works rather well for me) and that is to use a custom permalink structure of /%postname%/

This would mean something like http:/yoursite.com/postname/ as the post's URL and the SEs will love you for it.

Be sure though, to update your .htaccess file with what WP will give you after updating your permalinks structure.

Good luck... WP is one of the best pieces of software out there.

SkinMerchant :thumbsup

i think the posts will stay there

try it out for a minute and see what happens, you can always go back and change it, it won't fuck anything up
