Hardware Guys - CPU Fan Question

Googling around a bit about cpu fans for alternatives to the shitty and LOUD stock fan that comes with pentium 4's...everyone seems to claim that there's is the quietest, blah blah...

I'd like to hear some personal experiences to point me in the right direction. This fucking thing is driving me nuts. I'm looking for the absolute quiestest fan possible without having to resort to a liquid cooling system.

if you want the best/quietest cooling your going to have to go liquid:

80mm panaflo fan and an adapter to make up the difference in size.

they're fucking noisy, some PCs have special casing though to isolate the noise, they cost a bit more and you'll have to find out where you can get them form in your town/city/village/hood

if you want to make you pc a bit more quiet , you install some baffling , go down to your local hardware store and buy some sheets of cork board and some adhesive , glue the cork to the inside of your case

go with water cooling (for example some zalman kit) :thumbsup

You are wrong. So mewatercooling systems can be even more loud than stock cooling.

Im gonna kill my fan! Makes so fucking much noise it's just unbelivable! Getting a new one soon... just got to grab my ass and DO it!

you can get some copper heatsinks that are soo good they dont need a fan, provided your not overclocking like crazy, like the copper thermaltake volcano ones..

water cooling is designed to be quiet, find a good water cooling system (dont go with the 20.00 kits you find on the computer parts forums and you should be good)

Water cooling systems still need fans to dissipate heat from the heatsinks. And these fans are loud. Watercooling is more effective at cooling, but not nesessarely more quiet.

:2 cents:

I bought a couple of these, they are so fucking easy to install (everything is essentially done for you minus a bit of elbow grease) and are really quiet. They tie with the high-end air stock coolers so don?t expect miracles from them.

Thermaltake Silent Water

Mine is loud as hell. Which sucks when trying to get a sleep at night... :disgust

SinisterStudios 10-12-2006 05:21 PM

Baffling or liquid are your 2 best options. Checkout www.nexfan.com they have every option you could possibly need. I get alot of my server cooling stuff from them

OG LennyT 10-12-2006 05:23 PM

I know ball bearing fans are quieter... honestly though, I stick my bedroom, 24 hr entertainment pc, in a cabinet so I so dont have to hear it.

Barefootsies 10-12-2006 05:50 PM

Sheesh

What kind of computers do you all have that have loud ass fans? I mean, I have had to replace the occasional one here and there over the years. But the loudest I've ever had was on a graphics card. Which I recently swapped out. End of problem. But otherwise I've never heard one, and my PC's I build with a minimium of 2.

:disgust

I'm honestly starting to think that it may be my power supply fan that's the culprit.
