I bought a new Mitsubishi for my GF and the stock Stereo/CD player had a little mp3 insignia on it.
I burned 147 mp3's on a cdr and it plays perfectly.
The problem with the iPod is that the screen is too small and navigation might get clumsy. The bigger the display, the easier it will be to find your way around a sorted 800+ Mp3 disc, especially behind the wheel.

Yeah, my girlfriend's does -- she has a nice one. The one in the BMW is stock, as I saw no reason to replace it (and it's integrated into the DVD navigation). My BMW hooks up to the iPod, though, so there isn't much use in playing MP3's off of CD's, I guess.

I'm jealous.
too bad you didn't get one that accepts an IPOD.... then you wouldn't have had to waste all that time burning CD's and IPOD's don't skip
Mine plays everything, although I use my IPOD for everything.
i was just checking out my friends deck that accepts his IPOD. i never really paid attention to IPODs but wow.... he has it locked in his glove box and has an obscene amount of music (80GB), zero CD's... no chance of it ever skipping again and doesn't have to change disks or hide them when he parks.
