Clinton cuts deficit in half

The federal deficit in the budget year that just ended fell to a four-year low of $247.7 billion. "These numbers show that we have now achieved our goal of cutting the federal deficit in half and we've done it three years ahead of schedule," Clinton told reporters at a Rose Garden news conference.

he thinks he is ...

meanwhile, the cutting in half is good news, but no miracle when the deficit ballooned .... to records high ....

He said Clinton, the article says Bush.

Some funny points in todays press briefing.

When speaking of how the tax cuts have helped keep more money in peoples pockets, he failed to follow up with any mention of raising minimum wage (cuz that would take money OUT of business' pockets?)

When speaking about iraq, he mentioned that religious fanatics have agendas. No kidding, ever look at the conservative parties far right? You know, your base voters? lol

Anyway, amusing.

Bush makes me LOL:

The pledge to cut the deficit in half was based on the administration's forecast that the 2004 deficit would hit $521 billion, a figure that proved to be too pessimistic by more than $100 billion. However, the administration has continued to use the forecast number as its benchmark for deficit reduction.

Transparency, honestly and a ability to reflect that actual truth we never attributes of the current admin. Grasping one part of a spreadsheet in an attempt to clutch at some hope is pointless.

Meanwhile the economic downwards spiral continues with constant daily borrowing, increasing trade deficit - hell - if the US was a corporation, the management would be thinking of bankruptcy.

Funny quotes - sad they are supposed to be serious.

It's obvious one thing is clear - the US sure has no "strong economy" and that is clearly reflected in weak currency exchange.

Instead of looking at domestic shares values - have a look at the overall and view the US as USA Inc - that shows an entirely different story and one where consumption is approx 160% of wage bills and where that consumption is being purchased from other nations by a weak currency. Among other aspects, tho relevant, is a constant trade deficit. Overall - totally unsustainable and similar to permanently living off a credit card.

I'm no lib nor do I give a shit about stupid politics, but can see a downwards spiral - that is what is happening on various levels and has been for a few years now.

i don't really understand it all but I'm pretty sure Bush is not good for the economy spending all that money on silly wars

If you want to judge a country, look at how the poor are living. The rich will always be rich, the government is supposed to work for the poor.

At least it isn't being spent on something silly like rebuilding the Gulf Coast.
