Quelque chose, hormis la date qui naturellement date, dit que cette photographie est ancienne. Quoi au juste ? Peut-être la forme des meules posées là dans leur masse où l?on reconnaît la main ou le bras de l?homme. Ou bien la géométrie de la composition aussi parfaite, aussi amoureuse de la terre qu?une phrase de Péguy. Le noir et blanc, avec ses demi-teintes que n?effraie pas du tout le contrejour pourrait bien aussi nous ramener vers la photographie d?hier, quand elle interprétait ses paysages sans essayer d?y ajouter un style. Le contrejour lui-même, pourquoi pas, avec ce soleil qui déploie ses rayons à la manière des cartes enluminées que s?échangeaient les premiers communiants, quand après le sermon à l?église venait le tour des friandises.
