if all you need is very basic and simple blogware - Cute News 100% free

I also purchased a copy of blog organizer - that's probably the best thing after the sliced bread and the blowjob:
http://bo.cheapestwebsoftware.com/

makes it possible to run 1 million blogs from the same place, add trades, RSS feeds, you name it

Violetta 10-10-2006 03:39 AM

post urls...

Dont think wordpress is slow on me, but havent really tried anyone else. Heard that it uses lots of ram though

Sultry_Selenia 10-10-2006 03:42 AM

I've heard that WP cache can work wonders with larger blogs. I haven't tested it myself, but it might be able to help you out.

twan 10-10-2006 05:54 AM

You don't need a slow browser with a slow html page. Use blog editors and manage/add all your blog posts from one responsive program:
http://www.thumblogger.com/blogapi/newindex.html

or my own blog editor:

Klen 10-10-2006 05:55 AM

I strongly suggest you to use serendpity instead wordpress.Adress sy9.org

SmokeyTheBear 10-10-2006 09:09 AM

hmm lets see if i have this correct..

Using the most popular blog software for blogging is like using the most popular browser for browsing...

hmm that sounds about right..

i have a few interesting facts for you as well..

Using heinz ketchup for your hotdog , is like drinking at starbucks for your coffee

all things equal by the time you open GFY with IE squishypimp will manage to post in 27 threads using k-Meleon

popular != the best, otherwise I would've had Britney Spears in my CD player instead of Freshly Ground

Sosa 10-10-2006 09:38 AM

I'm running 5-6 blogs on a server and don't have any problems

True :thumbsup but if you were making money selling music like at a record store. you would make more money using BRITNEY SPEARS in your ads than "freshly ground" right .. and thats what were talking about here right.. money..

If you sell chainsaw's will you sell the chainsaw everyone is buying like hotcakes but isnt as good or the better one that only a few people buy .. :2 cents: :thumbsup

Wordpress is pretty damn good.

depends on if you want to stick with php or not.

depends on your server situation - i hope its apache

I love the donkeys that always go against the grain. Fight the power, idiots.

:1orglaugh :1orglaugh

I would have to add:

Using myspace for your social networking needs is like using *nix to run your server.

That being said, WP is a bit of a freaking memory hog. Also using other blog platforms might make them less of a target for comment spam, although SK2 is working like a charm still.

mrkris 10-10-2006 10:36 AM

Try a wordpress caching plugin, or even an apache caching plugin. Worked wonders for me and I run a LOT of sites on one server.

martinsc 10-10-2006 10:38 AM

more nice blogware at http://opensourcecms.com/

do you think that server could handle 50?

I'm curious to what the limit is

TheJimmy 10-10-2006 12:22 PM

So is this the one you're using Antonio?

s9y.org

I'd actually love to try out a few uber light memory hogging blog scripts for fun.

:thumbsup

Hmm... Using A1 sauce on your hotdog is a lot like using 10 coats of enamel and an underspray with metallic flake on your Yugo.

we are handling 1000 blogs on xlogz now without problems - server load 0.8

squishypimp 10-10-2006 12:42 PM

wordpress is an sql hog and bogs down servers :(

lambpie 10-10-2006 12:53 PM

funny how different people have different views, i only use wordpress because i search the web and most places seemed to recommend it..

2HousePlague 10-10-2006 01:03 PM

Ya, it's a problem, but WP is no worse than similar others. Here's a good read that relates to a slightly bigger (but fully relevant) picture -- http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/de...tchLngTail.asp
