Google Earth takes on a sinister new meaning...

...with the purchase of Youtube. What's next? PlentyOfFish and Wikipedia? Hey, maybe they'll snatch up Microsoft, Apple and IBM soon.

What kind of world would that be?

CaptainHowdy 10-09-2006 07:25 PM

It will be the same world... only owned by a funny named company.

Libertine 10-09-2006 07:25 PM

Just a single blow in a clash of titans. Yahoo and MS will probably make some huge moves within a year. We'll see a lot of consolidation in the next decade or so, but hey, we already knew that, right?

Jarmusch 10-09-2006 07:25 PM

Since their motto is 'Do no evil' it would probably be a good world without nuclear weapons.

KrisKross 10-09-2006 07:26 PM

What's PlentyOfFish?

squishypimp 10-09-2006 07:27 PM

lol have you noticed:

Microsoft (MSFT) Market Cap: 276.37B
Google (GOOG) Market Cap: 130.57B

you notice that gap has been getting smaller and smaller lately :)

rowan 10-09-2006 07:47 PM

Google will be Big Brother one day. They're already watching us, only a matter of time before they start controlling!

Lacerto 10-09-2006 07:48 PM

Personally i love google, everything they touch turns to gold. I would give the CEO head (and I'm straight).

You would cease to be straight from that day forth.

Do you guys remember that crazy Google flash video someone made a year or two ago about the future of Google, the internet and the way we get news? How it would create news based on what we wanted to hear and print would become for the elite only?

Crazy video, but cool to watch.

Now it's one step closer....

I know someone who was working on just such a device. You feed it a few keywords (some nouns, some ajectives, etc) like "Bush, failure, iraq" and it would write you a whole story. He was offered several hundred thousand dollars by some group of investors who wanted to buy the technology, but hasnt sold yet.

RedShoe 10-09-2006 10:21 PM

According to Wikipedia..

"In Christian eschatology and Islam, the Antichrist, Anti-christ or Dajjal (literally: anti, opposite; christ, messiah) has come to mean a person, image of a person, or other entity that is the embodiment of evil and utterly opposed to truth, according to Christianity, while convincingly disguised as wholly good and a bringer of truth. "

Google is the next anti-christ!

Google will soon support electoral campaign of some representatives for the house of congress.. :pimp

My bet is as more apps become web based instead of residing on your PC, MS's hold on the world's PC is going to evaporate, and Google will end up buying Microsoft just to put the final nail in the coffin. Linux is going to be the only OS needed and it will be free. You'll only store your data files on the PC, and perform the apps off of web servers. No more software updates or upgrades needed.

MS has certainly done a lot for the evolution of computing, but in the process they decided their business model would be crush all the competition you can, to stifle innovation which could displace their products, and with that attitude at the core of their corporate mantra, it was inevitable alongside of being one of America's most admired companies, they would be one of the most despised.

What's plentyoffish?

Bro Media - BANNED FOR LIFE 10-09-2006 10:56 PM

google will rule the world before i die, mark my words... and i will be waiting, and loving it.

Matt 26z 10-09-2006 11:18 PM

It's only a matter of time before people turn on Google just like they did big bad Microsoft.

mrthumbs 10-09-2006 11:25 PM

People seem to forget that Googles main point of value is still SEARCHES.
99% of their income is still from those searches. And except for Gmail
no spinoff product has really been successful.

A new search engine and google is exit. Stupid purchases like youtube
to compensate a previously failed video.google etc wont help much.

Google is a big big big bubble going down

Brujah 10-09-2006 11:59 PM

Google's motto is "Do no evil"

ae-sc 10-10-2006 12:07 AM

uhhh, are you stupid?

video.google.com is not a "previously failed" project, out of the HUNDREDS of video sites, including the big ones, metacafe, vidilife.com, mojoflix.com etc, google videos is the NUMBER 2 video site, right behind youtube, which they now own..

you sure do need to check your facts, because you seem to have them all wrong

detoxed 10-10-2006 10:52 AM

If I was google I would buy those sites and many more considered undervalued when valueing youtube at 1.6 bil. have traffic in house in every niche on many different levels

Phoenix 10-10-2006 10:54 AM

Did you miss the part where Google bought YouTube? It wasn't the other way around.

Now Google has a huge lead on being first when it comes to video sites. YouTube and Google Video combined account for something like 50-60% of total video site traffic.
