should smoking cigarettes be made illegal?

some people will draw the comparison to alcohol, but i would say that only 30% or less of people who drink are alcoholics

out of all the people i know who smoke maybe 5% or less are casual smokers who do not smoke multiple cigarettes every day, we know cigarettes cause cancer so should cigarettes be outlawed?

chupachups 10-08-2006 06:43 PM

I take it you live in the land of the free huh?

marketsmart 10-08-2006 06:44 PM

there is no way smoking will become "illegal"

bl4h 10-08-2006 06:45 PM

are you comparing cigarretes to alcohol?

Kristian 10-08-2006 06:48 PM

30% of alcohol-comsumers are alcoholics? Thank you for the laugh LOL

421Fill 10-08-2006 06:49 PM

lmao... could you imagine all the smokers being forced to quit at the same time?? would be pure fucking anarchy, lol!

notabook 10-08-2006 06:51 PM

No and no. I believe that a consenting adult has the right to do whatever he or she wishes to do with his or her body. Drinking, smoking, giving yourself over to christ (or Lord Archiot), fucking – doesn’t matter.

I don't like smelling someone's breath after they have drank, filling my nostrils with their vile breath -- but it doesn't hurt me. Just like second hand smoke doesn't hurt you.

Rochard 10-08-2006 07:26 PM

I think we should make pot legal. I don't smoke the crap myself, but I'm guessing they can tax it and pay for my Social Security in a few years....

One sure way to make everybody quit is to get rid of them completely

wdforty 10-08-2006 07:34 PM

Not going to happen.. too much tax to be made from these idiots :2 cents: :321GFY

cyberstar 10-08-2006 07:37 PM

it will never happen.. too much money in it...

KRL 10-08-2006 07:43 PM

YES! YES! YES!

It's a filthy discusting expensive habit. Smoking costs the worlds taxpayers over a Trillion dollars paying for the healthcare of all the cancer and related disease victims that can't pay their medical bills.

I resent having to inhale second hand smoke whenever you go to restaurants, clubs, and outdoors.

I hate driving in traffic and a smoker is in front of you and their stinking crap blows into your car and especially when they just toss their butts out on the street.

I say get rid of cigs that poison and addict millions of young people who when they get older regret they got hooked.

:thumbsup

E$_manager 10-08-2006 08:46 PM

In some places it is already illigal. I'd like the sigaretted to be forbidden. At least my daughter wouldn't try it. But i am afraid it is almost impossible.

thebossxxx 10-08-2006 08:47 PM

Cigarettes are shitty for you but if we continue regulating everything that may be bad for you then we will certainley lose all our freedoms!

minusonebit 10-08-2006 08:48 PM

Of course not. Smoke all you like. I'll enjoy watching you die.

nAtuRaLbEautY 10-08-2006 08:52 PM

i don't think that would be good...
though i'm a non-smoker, i have some relatives and friends who are kinda addicted to it; and i know that they won't like that suggestion

shekinah 10-08-2006 08:55 PM

It's just a matter of self control if you want to take then go and if not don't!

But you need help. If there would be no seducers, it would be easier to control yourself.

You actually just supported one of the worst polluters available, that spew forth more foul harmful crap into the air we breath, and you have the sack to complain that some tobacco smoke makes it to your car.
Do you realize how many times when I have been pushing myself down the sidewalk and about choke to death coughing and wheezing due to some vehicle idling next to me, literally coating me and the surrounding air with hot and very toxic smoke?

Now lets go over your other small points. I know there is a greater chance of a snowball spontaneously forming in a blast furnace than there is to change any of your minds but I regress.

Costing tax payers trillions, billions, whatever:
Why can not the worlds smokers or even on just a local level the smokers of the US have the majority of cigarette taxes go towards a medical fund? Hardly any of it goes to anti smoking campaigns anyways, most of that is done by the cigarette companies as part of the settlements as it is. The vast majority just goes into other non smoking random state bullshit as it stands. Not to mention there are plenty of other things that cost tax payers a shit load that seem to be perfectly fine in their eyes.

Cancer and related diseases:
Anti smoking fanatics have attributed almost every disease to smoking despite no real scientific facts. No I am not saying it does not cause some either, it just is nowhere near as many as the fanatics claim.

Second hand smoke... Restaurants, clubs...
Already banned almost everywhere as it is, and for some odd fucking reason people can not make a choice of having a smoking establishment and a non smoking one. I am not about to get into second hand smoke arguments in general, that is another debate.

Get rid of cigarettes...
As long as we can get rid of everything else that poisons people or causes long term effects. I am tired of the majority of traffic, sick of paying taxes for cops responding to domestic disturbances due to alcohol, fast food places are causing blight and numerous health related diseases, restaurants are feeding people to large of portions of unhealthy food and do not even have nutritional labels in the menus which is making people fat. There is high fructose corn syrup in almost everything. Personal vehicles need to go as well, we can build and use public transportation, businesses could get an exemption if they can warrant it of course. The list can go on and on.

Aquarius 10-09-2006 11:01 AM

It'll never happen.

bobby666 10-09-2006 11:07 AM

legalize cannabis !!
who will controll the private apartments of being smoked zhere ??? the tobaccopolice?

MetaMan 10-09-2006 11:10 AM

Anyone who wants it banned is a fucking idiot.

Dont you people realise porn is in the same boat? Some people believe we are destroying the minds of millions and would like nothing better than to get rid of us.

I always have a laugh when pornagraphers want other things banned.

DWB 10-09-2006 11:40 AM

smoking in public places should be.

any person should be allowed to do ANYTHING they want in their own home. smoke, drink, drugs, gay sex... whatever.

smoking, eating, talking on the phone or anything else that distracts you from driving a car should also be illegal. you need to focus on driving, and driving only.

but in your own home... fire it up, it's your house.

Gentle_Ben 10-09-2006 12:09 PM

NOOOOOOOOO.

I agree with what After Shock Media Said

I just got back from the US today and, like always, witnessed an inproportionate amount of obese people (which I have no problem at all with). I think along with smoking related illnesses, that complications due to being overweight top the spectrum of expenses to the taxpayers. Following this guy's reasoning, should we start putting extra taxes on overly fattening foods? (ten dollar twinkies?). If you detest smoking and people who smoke so much than make a bigger effort to stay away from it. In many cities you can hardly smoke anywhere, so it shouldnt be that hard if you feel strongly enough about it. Its YOUR perogative dude

EZRhino 10-09-2006 12:16 PM

Cigarettes will never become illegal for one big reason. Special interest groups that squeeze taxes out of smokers to fund their pet projects make way to much money from smokers.
Its a cash cow for the Rob Reiner's of the system.
