Word. Spend.com has been a good vanity domain for us for years.

Mike AI 10-06-2006 02:29 PM

Great domain. BIG price.

madawgz 10-06-2006 02:30 PM

that would be a great domain for compulsive shoppers to go to...

Juicy D. Links 10-06-2006 02:32 PM

Nice n Ripe

XPays 10-06-2006 02:33 PM

I agree that the number is full-retail. There is still plenty of room for growth though over the coming years for premium domains.

sugarlips 10-06-2006 02:34 PM

that's a tasty one.

XPays 10-06-2006 02:39 PM

playboy should buy spend.com and put up a corp. portal for their ongoing acquisitions ;-)

squishypimp 10-06-2006 02:39 PM

i love it :)

Nope, but that doesn't mean it's not a good name and worth the price. It's a brand, and a potentially great one, so unless Evan's in a hurry, no reason to underprice it. :thumbsup

nice domain, but not worth that much...

XPays 10-06-2006 02:44 PM

no hurry- we bought the domain from isupply several years ago and our development plans for it became huntingmoon instead of spend.

on a separate note- somebody who gvetches about hating parked pages should buy it just to have one less parked page on the net, lol.

Juicy D. Links 10-06-2006 02:44 PM

I sale juicy.com for 45k

shuki 10-06-2006 02:44 PM

You know what I think already, Ev - send out some press releases. Put it on Ebay. Fish for prospective buyers on DNJ with an ad.

Stir the pot ... no asking price except "six figures plus"

:2 cents:

Great advice and we have full-time domain marketers in-house working at HuntingMoon too.

One point though- is that gfy is a good start- I sold Pornstar.com and Smut.com and FreeHardcore.com here in the past. We have also bought domains here.

tranza 10-06-2006 02:59 PM

Dom buyer, are you that successful in spamming domain holders looking for leads? I seem to get them all the time from you.

Thats good - they can put all the rumors up on there....

Libertine 10-06-2006 05:00 PM

Beautiful domain, but not all that useful.

People don't want to "spend", they want to "buy" or "shop", and most often they want to "spend less", not just "spend".

The dictionary says: "1. to pay out, disburse, or expend; dispose of (money, wealth, resources, etc.): resisting the temptation to spend one's money."

The word "spend" has a negative connotation - it is linked with losing money. Horrible for building a brand around, since it might actually make shoppers realize they are spending (and thus losing) money, without focusing their attention on what they are getting or on the fun of shopping.

Oddly, for branding a domain like SpendLess.com would be more useful...

there is always the other side of the coin. like identifying with a higher end market or it would be a great domain for one of those online games where you buy states and countries or what not. there are many possible uses where the definition is a plus.

The word doesn't work with higher end markets either. Cost may be less important or even relevant to those customers, but that merely means that less attention should be given to the monetary aspect of buying or shopping - unless it's with cryptic language, like "exclusive", "exquisite", etc. Only the most tacky of nouveax riches would explicitly consider spending more as a good thing.

It could work for an online game, you're right about that, but the real money, with websites, is in shopping (well, excluding b2b).

The only real use I see for it is as the brand for a site marketing expensive luxury products to the nouveaux riches, pretentious money-wasters and lovers of "bling". The problem is, that excludes a majority of buyers of expensive luxury products. It could still work, but it requires pretty deep pockets and is quite risky.

Sweet domain name

lazycash 10-06-2006 08:02 PM

How about a no reserve ebay auction? :Graucho

it's tempting but a bit too risky for such a rare domain. it would be interesting to try ebay no reserve on some other domains we have though. we added over 1000 new domains to HuntingMoon.com in the last few weeks..
