Should Teachers Be Allowed to Carry Guns?
Wis. lawmaker wants teachers to carry guns
He cites Israel, Thailand; school official says problems are not that bad. Associated Press MADISON, Wis. - In the wake of school shootings in Wisconsin, Colorado and Pennsylvania during the last two weeks, a state legislator says he plans to introduce legislation that would allow teachers, principals, administrators and other school personnel to carry concealed weapons. Rep. Frank Lasee, a Republican, said Wednesday that, while his idea may not be politically correct, it has worked effectively in other countries. "To make our schools safe for our students to learn, all options should be on the table," he said. "Israel and Thailand have well-trained teachers carrying weapons and keeping their children safe from harm. It can work in Wisconsin." In Thailand, where officials have been waging a bloody fight with Muslim separatists for the last two years, some teachers carry weapons for self defense as they are viewed as part of the government. In Israel, teachers are not allowed to carry weapons in the school, but security guards at the entrances are armed. Lasee stressed that the measure would hinge on school staff members getting strict training on the use of the weapons. He also acknowledged he would have to work around a federal law that bans guns on school grounds. The director of school safety for Milwaukee Public Schools, Pete Pochowski, expressed opposition to Lasee's proposal. "Statistically, the safest place for a child to be is in school," Pochowski said. "We have problems in our schools, but not to the point where we need to arm our teachers and principals." What do you think? |
Already debated this week. Conclusion was no.

fuck no.

My mother and sister are teachers. If teachers carried guns I would worry for them everyday. Plus, they just wouldn't do it.

Here's a crazy idea:
If you're a teacher and you think you NEED a gun? Find a different fucking school to teach at. |
Big No!!!

first thought- stupid fucking idea. Second thought, Teachers arent even allowed to be teaching kids without a serious background check before employment. if I cant trust a teacher with a .38 stuffed in their pants why should I trust them at all with my kid. If someone walks into a school ready to rape and kill kids, this would at least give them a shot at living depending on the teacher. Though I doubt there would be too many people in the teaching field that would have what it takes to pull the trigger. Now trying to think like a pedophile scumbag, right now a school seems like a perfect place to do my thing, but you give teachers guns, at least the ones that would take them. It makes the idea a whole lot less appealing knowing I could be shot in the face before I even got myself barricaded in a classroom. Kinda like vermont right now.. No gun laws at all there, anyone could be carrying, everyone knows that, lowest crime rate in the fucking country

My point is this: If a teacher feels so unsafe that they think they only want to ensure their safety is to carry a gun, then they need to find a new job - be it at a different school or a different job altogether. |
